Bountiful Sonoma Tour
Day 1, Monday
Arrive in Sonoma and check into your hotel, The Lodge at Sonoma Renaissance Resort & Spa. You are at leisure for the remainder of the day. Explore nearby Sonoma Plaza*; tree-studded and charming, it is replete with shops and cafes. Or enjoy a spa treatment at the hotel. A welcome dinner with special wines will be at Sondra Bernstein’s sophisticated and quirky restaurant, the girl & the fig. Cited by food lovers and national media as an iconic wine country destination, it serves rustic Provencal-inspired cuisine.
*The hotel offers a complimentary shuttle service to the Plaza.
Day 2, Tuesday
Only available by private tour, today you’ll visit the Robert Hunter Winery for an excursion through its Thomas Church-designed botanical gardens, and wine tastings that include the sparkling brut de noir for which it is renowned. Then off to the Kunde Estate for a mountain-top picnic lunch and wine tastings—with a panoramic view of the Valley. You’ll sample regional olive oils at the award-winning Olive Press and be back at the hotel in time to attend the Sonoma Valley Farmer’s Market in the Plaza. The weekly evening market offers an abundance of food stalls, crafts, live music and fun. Dinner is on your own and choices abound or you may try one of the many offerings at the market.
Day 3, Wednesday
This day will be a full one, beginning with a tour and tasting of artisanal cheeses at the award-winning Cow Girl Creamery in Petaluma, followed by a visit to the Green String Farm to learn about their sustainability practices. The farm, founded by Fred Cline and Bob Cannard, provides produce to many of California’s top restaurants, and was one of the original suppliers to Alice Water’s Chez Panisse. Your visit will include picking vegetables for your dinner and a special picnic lunch as well as time to shop in the farm store.
You’ll continue on to the charming town of Healdsburg to explore its Plaza’s shops and galleries, and to have a baking lesson with the legendary Downtown Bakery’s founder, Chez Panisse alumna Kathleen Stewart. Early in the evening you will have a hands-on cooking lesson at the stylish, state-of-the-art Relish Culinary Center. Your instructor? Author, culinary educator and “The Father of Wine Country Cuisine”, Chef John Ash. Your dinner will be the fruits of your labor, served with wine. Expect it to be an evening to remember.
