AN ESSENTIAL REDUCTION
Bob discusses his philosophy as a
master bladesmith and the
inspiration behind his newest
collection, Kramer Essential. He
also walks us through the process
and craftsmanship that go into the
making of each of these new knives.
WHAT IS SHARP?
See what sharp looks like.
In this video Bob shows you several
simple ways to tell if your cutlery
is sharp or not, and then he dulls
a knife to demonstrate what poor
performance looks and feels like.
Honing Your Knife
Honing or steeling your cutlery
is the first step to take when
you realize a knife is not razor
sharp. Bob demonstrates the
proper professional technique
for using the steel, which realigns
the blade's edge and should
become a regular part of
your knife maintenance.
Stoning Your Knife
If, after honing your knife, it
still isn't performing up to par
you need to stone your knife.
Sharpening stones remove
excess material from blade edges
to create two surfaces that come
together perfectly.
Inside the Foundry
Bob Kramer, the premier kitchen
knifemaker in the country, invites us
into his foundry where he creates
by hand some of the most sought
after cutlery in the world. Bob tells
how he became a Master Bladesmith,
why he insists upon using only the
best materials and his creative process.
Meet Bob Kramer cutlery. Working with a simple philosophy and an obsessive dedication to excellence.
