Grind Your Own Coffee Beans

For the best flavor, buy coffee beans and grind them yourself. Grind only the amount you need for immediate brewing. For filter drip coffee, grind to the consistency of granulated sugar. Grind coffee for espresso almost to a powder. If you have a French press, grind the beans coarsely, similar to dried bread crumbs.

How To Make Cappuccino Foam At Home

A milk frother works best, but don’t have one, use your blender to make the foam. Bring about 1/2 cup whole milk to a simmer in a small saucepan or in a glass pitcher in a microwave. Transfer to a blender and process on high speed until the milk is foamy. Skim the foam off the top and spoon over the hot brewed coffee.

Keep Coffee Fresher Longer

Coffee should be stored in an airtight container at cool room temperature. Never refrigerate coffee, as the humidity will have an adverse affect on the brew. Freeze coffee only if you won't be able to finish your purchase within two weeks. Once removed from the freezer, store in an airtight container and refrain from refreezing.

Dosage Recommendations For Making Coffee

When brewing coffee, use two level tablespoons for each six ounces of water. For espresso, use around two tablespoons of coffee per one ounce shot. If you use less coffee, it will taste watered down. Use more and it will taste strong. Of course everybody's preference is different. To dilute strong coffee, just add a little hot water to your cup.

How To Cold Brew Coffee

Brewing iced coffee requires a slightly different technique than hot coffee. Stir together 1/3 cup medium-coarse ground coffee and 1 1/2 cups water. Cover and let rest at room temperature overnight for up to 12 hours. Strain twice through a coffee filter or a fine-mesh sieve. Mix ice with equal parts coffee and water in a tall glass to taste.

Tea Tip: An Electric Kettle for the Perfect Temperature

With hundreds (if not thousands) of teas available, from robust to delicate, it makes sense that you should use a range of water temperatures to prepare them. Black teas are the heartiest, and should be prepared with rapidly boiling water. Oolong teas are ideally made with water at about 190°F (the bubbles in the water will form vertical rows). Green teas taste best when prepared with water at the gentle temperature of 160°F (the bubbles will just begin to break the surface of the water). Using an electric kettle will ensure the perfect temperature every time.

Let’s Talk Coffee & Tea

Brewing Up Great Ideas for Your Cup

Whether you rise at dawn and salute Earl Grey or a quad shot espresso is your only way to face the day, teakettles, coffee makers and espresso machines are terrific things to add to your registry. There are a multitude of choices to suit every taste and budget.

Think About Your Drink

The first thing to consider is what kind of coffee you love to drink? If regular drip coffee is your drink, a top-quality drip coffee maker should be on your list. If you love strong, black coffee, include a French Press on your list— it’s an easy way to brew a rich, delicious cup. Do you love lattes and espresso drinks and want to make them at home? We have several machines you can use to make café-quality espresso. Or for the ultimate in convenient perfection, automatic coffee centers make extraordinary espresso and more at the touch of the button. For tea lovers, there are excellent brewing machines for you, as well as electric teakettles.

Get Personal

Many automatic machines let you create drinks exactly the way you like and even save your preferences. They’re great if you do a lot of entertaining—you can easily make customized drinks one after the other with and no downtime. If only one person at home enjoys coffee, an single-serve coffee maker that brews perfect coffee one cup at a time is a terrific choice.

Survey Space

A lot goes into a great cup of coffee: grinder, frother, insulated milk container, the machine itself, a teakettle if you enjoy French press coffee, tea or hot chocolate. If you don’t have ample room for all these elements, your best option is an all-in-one machine. There are quite a few automatic coffee centers with small footprints and everything you need built into a single unit: frother, grinder, water heater, and more, all tucked nicely into the machine.
