Scarperia is a small town in the Mugello district of Italy famous throughout the world for its ancient tradition in knife making. In its narrow alleys you can still find artisans workshops that take you back in time: more often than not, on entering the shop youll find yourself in a classic artisans workshop of old where time just seems to stand still. And the sensation remains, even when you realize that today
their work is assisted by machines running on electricity: this is because, even if you haven’t got an expert eye, its easy to see the difference that the skill of the artisan handcraft still makes today, using techniques handed down through the generations, transmitting ability and passion for a work of precision and total dedication.
Its a pleasure to pick up and touch handmade knives that are real works of art, often unique pieces, far removed from anything mass production could make. These are the reasons Alberto Marcomini chose Coltelleria Saladini to realize his dream: to make knives specifically designed to cut and serve cheese. The result of months of sketches, tests, and prototypes, is this series, which as well as being extraordinarily elegant and practical, is truly unique and a one of a kind.
