This is the third type of pie shield that I've had over the years, and it is far and away the best. The first (NOT a Chicago Metallic product) did its basic job of protecting the oven from leaking juices but it was so flimsy it would buckle under the weight of the pie during transport from oven to cooling rack. As the baker, I was aware of this shortcoming. Once, however, an eager guest tried to move the pie from cooling rack to dining room table, and a beautiful blueberry pie ended up on the floor. I replaced this inferior shield with a rigid model, and while it didn't buckle its surface was so slippery that there still was danger of losing the pie while moving it. The Chicago Metallic model solves these problems. The red circle holds the pie firmly in place during transport, and the metal shield itself is very sturdy (as every Chicago Metallic product is). Should some juices bubble over, they are captured by the shield and clean-up is easy. In addition, the rim of the shield is flared a bit on either side to facilitate a firm grasp
I really like that this pie shield holds the pie dish up, so that the juices that leak out don't get on the bottom of the pie dish. I also like that this has a silicone ring that keeps the pie dish from sliding off when you move it
