I ordered the Bonvita Coffeemaker along with the Bodum Bistro Burr Ginder from Sur la Table in January. We have had them both for 2 months now, and could not be more pleased.
I did substantial research and read alot of reviews on various sites before placing the order.
Our morning ritual is to have coffee and read the paper together. My husband usually gets up first so he grinds the perfect amount and drops it in the filter to be brewed. It is quick and aromatic; the aroma calls me out of bed. And may I say-- he would not do it if it wasn't simple! ... A carafe style pot is an important feature in order to enjoy our coffee while relaxing in the living area. The coffee is hot and stays hot even on weekends when we linger longer.
Sur la Table has a generous/convenient return policy which is is why we placed the order with them (just in case).
Definitely would recommend both products! They are designed extremely well both functionally and aesthetically
The coffee maker is the most important appliance in my kitchen, and I have spared no expense on a lot of different makes and models of espresso machines. I have now simplified things with just my Nespresso milk frother and a more reliable drip coffee maker. However, I was tired of my mini Cuisinart occasionally spewing water and grounds out from under the basket, and began searching for another machine but still wanted a smaller one that would not take up valuable counter space. Also wanted a thermal carafe this time. Not at all disappointed with the Bonavita. It is definitely the smoothest cup of coffee (Illy) I have been able to make at home. And it really is very fast... I can brew 5 cups (2.5 mugs) in about the same time as it takes for the Nespresso to froth the milk. The carafe keeps it nice and hot and no bitter taste from sitting on a warming plate. I store it perpendicular on the countertop and it does not take up any more space than my mini Cuisinart. The only trade off with having a carafe is that I now have to store the drip basket somewhere after swapping it out for the carafe lid that keeps the coffee hot. Auto shut off is a nice feature too
I did a lot of research on electric coffee pots and this one came out at the top of my list. Coffee tastes great, stays hot for a long time in the thermal pot, way longer than our old Krups. And it doesn't hurt it looks good on the counter
The Bonvita delivers! The most important element in a good cup of coffee, of course, is the coffee.
So, start there, then use the Bonvita: Consistent, right temp, and as easy to use as a mass-market brew machine.
I do find it necessary for the filter to be wetted before the coffee is added to the cone. Sometimes the filter collapses and the water runs between the filter and the cone - skipping the coffee. Ack! thin- coffee. Ack!
But I am certainly a cheerful coffee brewer in the morning these days
I spent a lot of time researching drip coffee makers before making this purchase and I'm very happy with the results. Prior to owning this coffee maker, I made coffee using the Eva Solo...which yielded very good coffee, but was too time consuming. This coffee maker heats the water to the correct temperature before it is poured through the ground beans. It brews quickly and yields a great cup of coffee in small or larger quantities. In combination with the nespresso milk frother, making coffee at home is now an absolute joy
I purchased this coffeemaker because of several features: easy to read numbers on water tank; easy to fill water tank; glass-lined carafe advertised to keep coffee hot for two hours; showerhead drip system; heats coffee to exact temperature; and reasonable price.
I was very disappointed in this coffeemaker. The carafe keeps coffee hot for about 20 minutes definitely not two hours. The drip starts immediately whether I put in cold or warm water so I can't see how it heats it to the optimum brewing temp. It drips very fast so it's necessary to use a lot of coffee to get a strong brew.
It's good that slt sells only the thermal carafe version. Glass carafes with heating elements burn the coffee within 20 minutes.
This is a smaller volume Technivorm clone (8 cups vs. 10+cups) at half the price. It lacks the Technivorm's flow rate switch, which allows the Technivorm to brew stronger coffee, so you will have to determine for yourself if this machine makes a strong enough brew, and adjust your grind
Back from the land of single serve coffee makers, this was selected as the most basic no frills affordable drip brewer. The coffee is superior, lacking the bitterness of lesser brewers. I use milk, which I do preheat in the microwave. The thermal carafe keeps coffee for two or so hours, hot enough so that steam is still apparent. The cover is functional and there is no problem finding a place for it. I use fair trade coffee beans and two tablespoons per five oz of water. Even pre ground mass market coffee tastes better
I had to retire my krups aroma coffee pot and was looking for a great replacement. Considered the technivorm but pricey and not easy to use. This is easy and the pot works like a pour over (Hario Cup). The coffee tastes wonderful, hot and non acidic. I do not have to use as much coffee either. I can not say enough about what a great cup of coffee this pot makes. Also, love the glass carafe inside the thermal pot. Easy to clean and no more stainless steel taste.
My 3rd cuisinart broke yet again so I decided to go with this brand based on the reviews. I loved everything about this coffee maker. My only complaint is the carafe does not keep the coffee hot for long, at least not for me. I like my coffee HOT. After about 2 hrs it's warm. It's a great size--not big and bulky like most. It's so easy to use, makes good coffee and looks very nice. I reluctantly return it. I just can't do the thermal carafes
I really like this coffee maker, however it stopped working last evening and I only had it for 18 months. It will be interesting what the limited two year warranty will bring because i sure would like it to be replaced.
I chose this coffeemaker because of the large number of strong positive reviews on this site as well as Amazon's. Most important is the fact that it makes an excellent cup of coffee. There are a few drawbacks such as the brew basket which sits directly on the carafe and has to be removed after the coffee is brewed. However, if lives up to the reviews that it produces a terrific cup of coffee I will be happy. Coffeelover
I did a lot of research on this type of coffee maker. I wanted a thermal carafe that would keep the coffee warm on a long Sunday morning. I also like the design and size of this unit. I have a Breville K-Cup maker that I'm quite happy with, but with the price of coffee going up, I figured I'd try a drip maker agin. I will post a review after I've used this unit for a whil. In the meantime, I'm looking forward to using it!
We currently have a Bunn brewer and a Keurig. We love the convenience of the Keurig during the week when we need our coffee about an hour apart, but I've always been a little weirded out by the waste factor and the potential side effects of the super heated plastic leaching into my brew. The Bunn is an excellent brewer, but you can't see the water level (or whatever may be growing inside the completely sealed water tank. Our hope is that this brewer will be our Happy Medium.
Read the reviews and they sounded great. Also the description and email mentioned, "One of the few electric brewers certified for quality and performance by the Specialty Coffee Association of America®" which is impressive. But the online reviews are the most persuasive.
I saw a recommendation for this coffee maker from America's Test Kitchen. It turned out to be a very timely message with the demise of my best ever coffee machine. From reading additional reviews, I think the production of excellent coffee will continue with the Bonavita.
After having yet another Cuisinart quit on me after about a year, I decided to do more research on my next coffeemaker. Bonavita was given very high ratings in every review I could find for performance, simplicity, and most importantly, MAKING GREAT COFFEE. I'm excited to try this new coffeemaker.
Saw this coffee maker while in a Sur La Table store and really thought the quality showed....read the reviews online and decided this would be a very good choice! Can't wait to try it out....great coffee is essential!!!

Best Answer:Hi Hannah, The Bonavita 8 cup thermal coffee maker does not have a programable feature...but it really makes great coffee! I just get it ready before I go to bed and all my husband has to do in the a.m. Is push the "on" button and in truly just about 3 minutes it is ready! The glass lined thermal carafe keeps the coffee super hot for several hours without changing the taste. I'm picky about coffee and this one is fantastic!!!
No you cannot set a coffee alarm with this. It is very basic. It makes coffee and does not keep the coffee warm. You have to get the version with the glass carafe if you want the hot plate. I regret not getting that one.
The unit doesn't have its own built in timer, but it could easily be used with an external timer. We haven't found the need to do this as the brewing cycle is very quick, and we have hot coffee in 2-3 minutes every morning. It is a great coffee maker ( the best we've ever owned) Coffee is delicious every morning
There is no automatic timer to set an alarm on the Bonavita 8-cup maker. I prepare the desired amount the night before, press the "on" button in the AM and it takes only 5-7 minutes! (has auto shut-off) Makes the best coffee! Very pleased.
Thanks for your answer. Has anyone at SLT brought this problem to Bonavita's attention? It seems that it would be a fairly easy problem to fix...if it has to do with the seal on the pour spout (to make it so if you don't depress the lever, you don't get coffee...and don't lose heat). Also, if it really can't be fixed, you should instruct your staff (usually very knowledgeable) to advise customers of this problem before they buy. (But honestly, I would think that if SLT told Bonavita that it was going to stop retailing their product that they would fix the problem pronto.
Hi. I guess I'm not going to get a satisfactory answer or resolution to the problem. Maybe when you forward my feedback to the vendor you could also give them my name and e-mail address and they could contact me directly. I would think they (and you) would want to make and sell the best product possible.
