Great find!
It's hard to find a cool, simple black bowl for appetizer plates. What makes these special is they're more than bowls, you can put them in the oven, so I am using mine to roast/warm nuts for appetizer and cheese plates. They also feel great: with a soft, matte, textured finish. Truly a cool find on my last trip to Sur La Table

Not what I expected
I purchased the largest bowl online sight unseen, to use as a small serving dish. I am submitting this review because it was not quite what I expected based on the photo and description.

I was expecting a smooth finish. (It is described as porcelain "perfect as a ... prep bowl.") The actual finish is quite rough; very similar to unglazed pottery. Too rough for an allround prep bowl. I don't know if the other "black" porcelain in this collection has the same finish. If I was considering buying one of the baking dishes, I would be concerned about food releasing if the finish is the same.

I knew from the dimensions given that the bowl was small, but the other bowls in the photo must be really small. The largest bowl is not much larger than a soup bowl, so be more careful than I was in judging the size by the photo.

The bowl is of obviously well made. I trust Revol's quality based on past experience. For someone looking for a rustic porcelain bowl in one of these sizes, one of these may be just the thing. (I am going to use mine as a catch-all for matches, pocket change, paper clips etc. on the kitchen side-counter. )

They match well with my slate cheese boards and will be used for accompanying mixed nuts or olives. A nice rustic feel to the bowls. I used them for this purpose on Thanksgiving with several slate boards with cheese and received lots of compliments. Of course really good French cheese on the boards also helps.......lol.

How many ounces do the various bowls hold?
K. W on Jan 2, 2015
Best Answer: We have only the smallest, the next size up and the biggest. We bought on looks only but measured out FOR YOU: smallest = 4 oz, the next size up = 10 oz and the biggest = 24 oz. Very nice I wish they came bigger.
