Warped on the first use
I have an electric, solid surface stovetop. It is essential for pans to sit flat on that surface in order to obtain uniform heating. I purchased this pan, thinking that it was good quality and that it would not warp. Unfortunately, it warped the first time I used it. The pan sat perfectly flat on my stove until I started heating it up. I did not even have the burner turned up all the way to high. It cooks pretty well, but there is a hot spot right in the center, which is now the only direct contact point on the burner. I am rather disappointed. For that reason, I would not recommend this pan if you cook on a solid surface

Excellent with one small quibble
This pan is an amazing go to, use for anything pan. I agree with a previous review that this particular saute pan is not well suited for electric or induction surfaces because as s/he rightly noted, they must sit absolutely flat.

The 5qt saute pan, however, is ever so slightly bowed at the bottom. When I first experienced this (on a job and very unhappy about the uneven heat distribution,) I returned the pan assuming that it was just a one-off issue. The second pan, had the same flaw. I have not experienced this problem with other products from the tri-ply line, but the big saute pan presented this problem twice. For the record, this does not stop me from loving this pan in every other regard, nor did it stop me from purchasing three of them to give to my team as anniversary gifts for my company's five year

This is becoming my go-to pan
I got this pan because I just couldn't pass up a 5 qt. stainless steel saute pan at this price! Easier to use one larger pan than two smaller ones. The pan heats evenly, cleans well and has a good solid feel to it

My Go-to Pan
I've had this pan now for almost a year. It still looks great, cooks evenly, cleans easily. I find I use this pan all the time for dinners. Just tonight I made dinner for 5: a sauce of butter, garlic, oregano, paprika and wine, sauteed chicken pieces slowly in the sauce, removed chicken and added cooked couscous to sauce. Dinner in one pan and easy clean-up. Just one example of many easy dinners

beyond what i expected!
i ordered this saute pan as a gift for my daughter. chef suggestion as the one perfect pan to own as a basic. the quality and weight are amazing. arrived within 3 days! absolutely beautifully crafted. the 12 inch size and adequate depth begs for a spatchcocked chicken and forty cloves of garlic. she and her husband will enjoy this gift for a lifetime.

Great product and great price
I was lucky to get this pan on sale. I have been looking for a large saute pan at a reasonable price for a long time. I was very pleased with the quality and size, both diameter and depth. Makes it easy to brown meat, saute onions, etc. and continue cooking the whole meal. The heat is evenly distributed. I haven't found any hot or cold spots.

The one problem for me is that it is pretty heavy. As a senior with some arthritis in my wrists, it was a little difficult to manipulate. But as the weight relates to the great quality, I can live with it

Nice Versatile Cookware
I found the pan to be very versatile, not too heavy and generally a go to main course pan with a family or gathering of 5 to 10 people. Of course, I love to eat and the portions shouldn't be too small

A Great Deal
Terrific pan at a bargain price! This has become my favorite go to pan. Great for sauteeing and for preparing quick and easy dinners. The depth allows for added liquids and vegetables to make the perfect one pot meal.

Warping issue?

I wanted to buy this pan but am put off a bit by a few of the reviews that cite that it doesn't sit flat. One person claimed that it warped on them while cooking. Is Sur La Table aware of this issue and is anything going to be done about it?PS: I am only asking because this also seemed to be an issue with the sauce pans but was resolved. I have a sauce pan from this series and it is perfect as is my roasting pan as well
A shopper on Dec 9, 2013
Best Answer: I am one of the people who reported this pan as warping and not sitting flat on my solid surface cooktop. I don't know if Sur la Table is aware of this or not. I still use my pan and it cooks well enough, but would be a much better tool if it sat totally flat on my stove. I still feel that if you have a solid surface cooktop, you should look at purchasing something else

Is this pan considered non stick? Want to buy for a new cook who has a lot to learn.
A shopper on Nov 28, 2014
Best Answer: No, and I don't know of any stainless steel pan that would be considered non-stick although my parents use Salad Master brand of stainless steel cookware and claim it is the closest they have found; i think it has some water/oil built into the pan or something, but that brand is sold exclusively via in-home 'parties' or something. Typically with stainless steel you have to use a fair bit of liquid or oil to prevent sticking and even then, stuff will likely stick a bit; if you cook low-fat, veggie broth or water can help. FWIW, I ultimately returned this particular pan only after a few uses due to warping; it just isn't well made. I would recommend the Scanpan brand instead. I have one Scanpan stainless that I have used nearly every day for 3 years and it is great (not non-stick though). I also traded this pan for a large Scanpan CTQ that is non-stick and I love it. I have found it to be pretty amazing for everything and it cleans up easy...probably my fav. Yes, costs more, but you get what you pay for...it'll last longer. Also, whatever pan you buy, be sure the new cook reads up on proper use and care so they are not disappointed. I find many pans nowadays recommend using medium heat as max, and depending on the pan other precautions.

Are the Sur La Table Tri-Ply line Induction ready?

What are the dimensions of the pan?
A shopper on Feb 1, 2015
Best Answer: 12" across & 3" deep - high quality pan at a great price that I use often. I use a polishing cleanser each time. I highly recommend Earth Brite which is a natural all purpose cleanser and is available on HSN. It's what I also use on my All-Clad.

Is this flat bottomed and suitable for glass top electric ranges
A shopper on Apr 10, 2014
Best Answer: No. I have used this product on an induction range and discovered that it bows in the center. I returned it for another assuming that the problem was a one-off. I had the same problem again. That being said, I love this pan, and use it all the time

Is this pan oven safe?
A shopper on Jun 10, 2015
Best Answer: The product description says "Use: Oven safe to 500°F." We have an induction range and it used to sit flat on the glass surface. However after using it in the oven at 400°F it warped downward in the middle between and 1/8 and 1/4 inch. So now it does not sit flat on the range surface and will spin around. We are still able to use it for saute-ing. But I am disappointed that the one I originally purchased did warp.
