Huge surface and even cooking
I got a chance to try this electric skillet this weekend, and I really loved it. The non-stick cooking surface is huge, but the Breville heating unit ensures a completely even temperature throughout.

As always, Breville's genius technology makes cooking easier. Sometimes it's the little things that make the biggest difference. They have a little tilt level that you can use to tilt the pan slightly to allow fat and juices to drip away. This was really nice for basting and it gave me a good juice buildup from draw from.

It's a triple threat in that you can saut, fry or steam. I personally really appreciate that versatility. The 15 different heat settings provide a lot of control and some great continuity.

Cleanup was a snap. It's just one big pan and nothing to take apart. You gotta love that

Breville Electric Skillet
LOVE this skillet! It is superb. It seems to heat evenly and turns out perfect food. My only complaints: The lid is rather flat ... not highly domed. Not a big deal for most of my cooking but one should be aware that the rise on the lid is only about 1/2 inch. The other is the heat controller. Instead of degrees Fahrenheit, it has numbers, like 1, 2, 3, 4. OK. I can DEAL with this, but what's wrong with actual temperature settings? All in all, a great skillet

Our second electric skillet had to be replaced. Neither of the last two was great. The non-stick started to come off and the heating was uneasy. We had been searching for awhile when we found the Breville.

It met our entire feature, function and size requirements. So we placed an order.

So far it has exceeded our every expectation. It is large enough to make dinner for a large family. The heating is consistent across the entire cooking surface. We really like that you can fry, steam or saut. It is easy to clean-up. We really like you can put it in the dishwasher

Love It
We were very hesitant to spend this much money on an electric skillet but are so glad we did. It cooks like a dream. You don't need much grease and it doesn't make much grease. It doesn't burn the food and you don't have to stand there and watch it. It is so easy to clean. This skillet would last a lifetime, it is so well built. We have several Breville products and they all have been worth the extra money they cost

Terrific Skillet
Wow, this is such a nice electric skillet. The coating makes clean-up so easy. I love the feature of the little stand that can tip the pan up so grease or a sauce can go to one end.

It heats evenly and all of the different settings get it just right. The chart that comes with it is very helpful as well as to what setting is the best. Good when just learning the functions.

The easy pour feature is excellent as well. The old 40 year old one went on to someone else's house and it served me well. I believe that this one will serve me just as well

Best Electric Skillet EVER!
This is hands-down the best skillet I've ever owned! The heat is uniform and the non-stick surface is amazing. The construction is solid and it's ergonomically comfortable. The past couple of years we we have learned that Breville products are always outstanding. If I had only one wish it would be that this could be offered in a smaller size...well that and made in the USA. :)

Another winner from Breville!
I needed to replace my former electric skillet and quickly researched Breville's inventory. I liked what I read and being the owner of 4 Breville kitchen appliances, decided to give it a try. The weight and balance, plus the rectangular shape appealed to me the first chance I tried it out. The extened coiled heating element allowed an even cooking surface. My former skillet never cooked well around its outer surface and tended to scorch in the middle where it's coil was located. I have cooked scrumptious French toast, scrambled eggs (which turned out perfectly) and bacon with NO complaints. I love the pour spout in one corner enabling easy drainage and the glass cover for easy observation. Clean up was a breeze. If you are looking for an excellent electric skillet, look no farther.

Disappointed
I had this skillet for almost a year and have not been happy with it. It has never browned evenly and always had to be turned all the way up to cook anything. Today, I couldn't even get pancakes cooked with it turned all the way up. I called Sur la Table and they will let me return. I might try another one, hoping this one was faulty because I like the depth of the skillet.

terrible
This is the oddest skillet. It gets hot, then it seems to turn off. Like someone else said in her review, I can't cook pancakes (which require highest heat.) It's really a problem because I relied on the reputation of Breville and mail ordered this, never expecting a problem. Returning will be more work than it's worth but of course I can't keep it. If you buy this, save the box and receipts and everything.

Waste of money
Bought this couple of months ago. I LOVE everything about it except the most important thing...it will not cook at a steady temperature! I called customer service and was on the phone with then for almost 45 mins. I felt like I was on "trial" with the type of questions they were asking me. I'm 62 years old and know how to fry chicken, pancakes, etc. I DO understand the concept that the skillet will turn off when reached a certain temperature but to stay off until it just stops frying is another thing all together! No matter how they try to spin it, the temperature is not consistent for cooking anything correctly. I wish I had my money back!

Very Poor Electric Skillet
This skillet does NOT maintain a consistent temperature. It does not cycle up and down to maintain the temperature, it cycles off COMPLETELY while cooking - not good if you are frying something like chicken, etc. Your food will just sit there soaking up the oil when it shuts off. In order to even cook pancakes, you have to set it on the highest setting and then it still cycles off. This is a MAJOR FLAW. I am very surprised as Breville usually sells very quality items. It seems to be getting worse the more I use it. I am very disappointed in this product and definitely recommend that you look at another brand for an electric skillet. Too bad that it is too late for me to return this item

what is the temperature range?

What is the lowest temp. and what is the highest temp. this electric skillet heats to?How many numbers are on the heat control
A shopper on Feb 1, 2014
Best Answer: According to Breville Customer Service, specific temperatures are not available, as it simply heats to high, medium and low.It has 15 temperature settings. The closest info they could provide to an actual temperature was to say that 2-6 is like a ""keep warm"" setting and 6-8 is like a ""slow cooker"" setting

When will Breville make a skillet with Fahrenheit settings instead of numbers?

I love Breville products but can't use the numerical settings (2,3,4, etc) when frying pastries and am waiting hopefully for this one to be available with the fahrenheit settings
Bella2 on Jun 23, 2014
Best Answer: Since Breville is an Australian company, it's unlikely that they'll make a skillet using Fahrenheit settings

Can you. Fry in this skillet?
Jade L on Dec 20, 2014
Best Answer: It's makes beautiful fried foods You can do just about anything in this skillet. It's big and roomy. But most importantly, it keeps an even temperature without having any cold or hot spots. This is by far the best electric skillet I've had in many years. The first electric skillet I had lasted 10 years. The next two I had were not Breville skillets and neither one of them lasted even as long as 2 years each. The Breville is obviously a high quality skillet and it's very easy to clean as well. It's a great deal at today's sale price.

Is the non-stick coating also PTFE free?
Kacy T on Nov 12, 2014
Best Answer: I don't know what PTFE means, but the description of the skillet says it's PFOA free. I don't know what that means either other than it's safe to use. Just as importantly, I just want to tell you this is the best electric skillet I've ever used. I have been cooking for over 50 years and this is the 5th electric skillet I've owned. I use it almost every day. It's quick to heat up, stays at the temperature I've set it to, adjusts quickly to any temperature changes I make, and is super easy to clean. It's by far the best electric skillet I've ever owned. One warning, though, it has a huge capacity. I wish there was a slightly smaller version as well. If there were a smaller version, I'd buy it, too.

Why does the electric make a humming sound when turned on ?
Dennis S on Aug 16, 2014
Best Answer: My only guess is: due to its size (the coil covers the entire bottom surface and the coils impressive wattage)and its power, you get that hum. That hum doesn't concern me and after using the skillet to make a delicious frittata (eggs were perfection) it could sing a tune as well. I truly think this is the best electric skillet I have ever owned. Hope that helps.
