Only me at home, so not having to boil a big stockpot of water to cook spaghetti or linguine is a big win in my book.
Pasta comes out great every time for me
I haven't had any issues with pasta being mushy. Maybe it would be mushy if it cooks too long
I put a layer of rotini at the bottom of the cooker and covered it with water and put it into my 900 watt, .9 cu microwave. The supports at the bottom of the long container just fit inside the glass platter with the ends of the cooker hanging over the sides. I doubt it would fit into a microwave smaller than .9 cu.
The rotini cooked up perfectly in 9 minutes. Since this first small batch came out so well, I cooked the rest of the rotini in it for 9 minutes. I didn't check for doneness and the pasta was not cooked through. I should have increased the time after doubling the amount of pasta and water. Now I check for doneness before pouring out the water.
It is tricky draining through the lid, even with it turned up side down (which I didn't do at first). So hot water splashed on my hands. I gave up using the lid as a drain. Now I simply use a spaghetti fork to remove the pasta the same way as from a pot.
I've used the cooker two more times with different shapes of pasta and I'm getting the hang of it. It is faster and easier than the old fashioned way, but still requires some practice to make perfect pasta.
PS The instructions that come with the cooker are very skimpy, but the Lekue website provides a free pasta cookbook in PDF format. I downloaded it but I have not made any of the recipes yet
