This is the best grinder I've owned. I bought one for pepper last year and used it lot. I was a little weary because it is in plastic but it is amazingly durable and works really easily. I now have several (salt, pepper, spices). I also bought a pair for a friend with a medical condition that weakens her hands so that she cannot grasp and turn the usual grinder. She has no problem with these
Kuhn Rikon is a wonderful company. I have never bought anything made by them that was not of the highest quality. This little rachet mill is amazing. I have purchased other mills, higher priced than this one, and this one is by far the best and most durable mill around. I have used it for salt and pepper of course and have used one for cloves, pepperocini and other spices. You will not regret this purchase
This has got to be the finest mill made!! When I found this I was looking for a high output pepper mill because my hands got sore grinding a large amount of pepper when I make biscuits and gravy as the gravy requires a large amount of pepper and fresh ground is SOOOOOOO much better than pre-ground! I now have three! One for salt, one for rainbow pepper pods, and one for black pepper. I only wish Sur La Table carried all the colors it comes in so I could get the purple one for my Himalayan salt
Needed a mill for white pepper, and didn't want to spend a lot. This mill works great. You can see long before you need to refill, and this is the easiest mill to refill, bar none, thanks to the tilting door. Works very quickly, and is a fun way to include kids (or novice friends) in the cooking process. Great value, too
We have had LOTS of pepper grinders over the years and this is by far the best (and especially for the price). As we are getting older, the way this works is much better than the twisting action needed to operate a normal pepper grinder
I used this mill at the Sur La Table Cooking school and was impressed by the adjustablilty of the grind and the ease of use, particularly for cooking. Bought one for salt and one for pepper. Love Kuhn Rikon stuff, my kitchen is full of it. Love the way it is made and how it works
They are fantastic -- easy to load the spices in, the ratchet is fantastic and I've never had a problem with salt or pepper getting stuck in the grinder. Can put out a lot of salt, pepper or whatever spice you want very quickly and easily. I've had them 5 months and I still absolutely love them and would highly recommend to anyone. Just a great product, which is appreciated after breaking 3 salt/pepper grinders within the 5 months prior. Very well made.
I have naturally oily skin and always had difficulty turning the top or bottom of the more popular types of Mills because my fingers and palms were always slipping. But with this style it is very easy to grind the salt and pepper. I like to choice of colors too. We know that Swiss made watches and clocks are the best, so I figured a mill designed by the Swiss would also be the best and I feel I am right. I highly recommend the Kuhn Rikon grinding mill for both salt and pepper
This is the best grinder ever! It is so easy to use and takes little effort to grind. I have had it for over a year now and they are still working great. I have one for salt and pepper. Everyone who has come over and used it comments about what a great grinder it is.
I have spent big bucks on high end peppermills and have never been truly satisfied. They were either too difficult to load the pepper corns into or hard to use. The Kuhn Rikon solves both of my complaints. Easy to load and easy to use. What more can you ask for?
I have been trying to find a good ratchet mill that works without a great deal of trouble. This one does. Easy on my hands and I like the output of spices. Very good ratchet mill. I can also change the size of the output I want.
I bought pepper grinder because I loved the design, ease of loading peppercorns and pricing. The first time I used it I thought I hadn't washed the greens properly as I thought I was biting into shards of something. I realized it was the texture of the pepper. I find the shard like texture annoying and plan to return it an go with traditional pepper grinders.
I already have one and it works great! It grinds with a good volume and in uniform amounts, so it can be used to measure spices as well as to grind them. It's very ergonomic and the operation does't obstruct your view of the food you're seasoning.
Once you get the hang of it, these are easier than twist peppermills. I have all four colors with a different kind of pepper in each. Exploring different kinds of pepper has helped me cut back on salt.
Best Answer:Don't believe this is a good answer! I love this mill, but having the bottom fall out and peppercorns go all over the kitchen isn't acceptable. Mine was the older model with a larger handle. Any evidence this newer version is a redesign of the mechanism that holds the grinder in?
Flax seeds are probably too small and oily for a pepper mill. Maybe try a mortar & pestle? Or invest a little and get a mini food processor, which you could use for lots of different stuff. Sur la Table offers one for $39.95 (SKU 972109)
Is this grinder suitable for grinding cinnamon sticks to fine powder?
A shopper on Jan 1, 2015
Best Answer:I don't think this product would work for cinnamon sticks, unless you would break them in to very small pieces to begin with. We have only used the mill for peppercorns and it does not grind them in to a fine powder. BUT, maybe we haven't set it fine enough...
Dimensions: 2" d x 8 ¾" h , is the height with the handle extended? I have the older model that just fit my spice rack with the handle in the down position. Unfortunately I dropped it and it broke. I would like to replace it.
