Does NOT do the job
Pretty yet useless but the issue is that the whisk does not graze the screen so nothing is forcing the flour through to aerate. You keep cranking but you end up having to keep tapping the sides and shaking and and and.... I'm very disappointed and may consider bringing it back to the store to see if they will refund. Store is over 30 miles away though...

Large capacity, smooth operation
I have the 8 cup size, it works great. Operates very smoothly and quickly, much better than the squeeze kind which is tough on the wrists if you are trying to sift larger quantities. Very happy with my purchase.

Stainless Steel Crank-Handle Sifter
At first I thought it was too large, but when I used it, i loved it.
The fluted bottom helps from getting flower everywhere. It is definitely worth the money.

Why did you choose this?
Sur La Table Store
I have a sifter similar to this that I have had for almost 40 years and it has finally worn out. I chose this as a replacement.

I'm tired of flimsy, rusty supermarket sifters. I don't mind paying for the right tools--and they're the ones that make the job easier..

It was a gift request. Looks like a quality item. I wouldn't mind having one for myself!

I make biscuits a lot and I had been using a large strainer. I wanted a real sifter.
Penny C on Jan 9, 2016
Hands won't take the squeeze method any more and this is easier for little ones to use.
Kris K on Dec 27, 2015
It seems as if I would have less trouble with my hand when I bake breads and cookies that require sifted flour.
B E on Dec 10, 2015
I have been needing a good flour sifter for years! The crank handle is far superior to the squeeze handle, and is easier to use. Also a generous 5-cup capacity.
Dorian R on Oct 9, 2015
My wife loves to bake and she has been using an old shifter she had since 1995, so I thought it was time for a new one.

I bought it for my mother, who is elderly and has neuropathy in her hands. She currently has a squeeze sifter, and she has trouble using it. A crank handle sifter will be much easier for her to use.
Laureen C on Jan 20, 2015
This is a gift for my youngest daughter. I prefer the crank handle to the pinch/squeeze type sifter. I liked mine so this is what I chose for my daughter.

How wide is the top opening of the 5 cup?
A shopper on May 12, 2014
BEST ANSWER: The top of this sifter has a 4 1/4"" diameter
Does the 5 qt model have two wires or four?
A shopper on Jan 14, 2015
BEST ANSWER: It has 4, however, only 2 actually come in contact with the screen. I would consider this to be a manufacturing flaw. Also when there is flower in the sifter the wires will not rotate backward even though the handle will turn backward of counterclockwise.
What are dimensions of the 8 cup model? -- storage is an issue -- Does the 8 cup model work better than the review for the 5-cup model?
Katherine T on Jan 25, 2016
BEST ANSWER: 8 cup: 6.25 diameter by 7.25 height by 8 wide (including handle)
5 cup: 5.25 diameter by 6.25 height by 6 wide (including handle)

Quality construction easy to clean. If you do a lot of sifting, I would choose the 8 cup, which is 1/2 gallon of flour. That's plenty!
