Superb tasting coffee
I love this coffee maker, and wish I would have got it years ago! After returning an all in one grinding/brewing machine that brewed lackluster coffee and took a long time to clean, we got the Mochamaster. It's extremely easy to clean and use, and flat out makes superb tasting coffee, and I'm pretty picky about coffee. You can really taste the notes of flavor in the beans.

It seems to be built like a tank - you can tell in the design of details like the power switch that has a solid professional feel to it. If you're on the fence, Sur La Table has a great return policy

Love it!
I don't think that we are particularly hard on coffeemakers, but my husband and I have gone through no less than 5 coffeemakers in the last 10 years. We finally decided to try something completely different. This coffeemaker, recommended by Cook's Illustrated, pleased my industrial designer husband, who is impressed by the fact that all of its functional elements are separate, and the brew basket is not going to overflow into the heating element, which seems to be the Achilles heel of most coffeemakers. AND, it makes great coffee... really it does. We figure that with its 5 year warranty, it will more than pay for itself

I love The Moccamaster
I have spent years searching for the best coffee maker. I have fallen for looks and gizmo's...all for naught. Finally, I gave up and tried a no frills, no computer chip, no clock etc model. The Moccamaster is the best, most reliable pot that I have found. I love it. Great coffe with simplicity, nothing to do but brew delicious coffee. Bravo Technivorm for the Moccamaster

Fine Automatic Drip Coffeemaker
Excellent no frills drip coffeemaker that ensures the correct water temperature for brewing coffee. Furthermore the boiler bring the water to the brewing temperature so fast that your pot of coffee is ready 5-6 minutes. Love this piece of equipment

A lovely cup of coffee
I do enjoy a hot cup of smooth, not bitter, coffee every morning with this coffee maker. You can taste the nuances of the beans similar to the essences of drinking and enjoying fine wine. I drink decaf, but enjoy the Whole Foods Decaffeinated French Roast which is roasted in house. With the burr grinder which I use daily, and filtered water, I love the coffee. The downside is that the capacity of the pot is small, only 40 oz. So for a crowd, I brew two pots and use a thermal carafe for serving. The second downside is the price, but I'm hoping to use the machine for many years. Okay, so maybe I should have rated it 4 1/2 stars!!

money well spent
Cannot say enough about how great this coffee maker is! Makes HOT coffee and tastes great. I think the key is using hot water not cold to brew.

Great Maker
Overall 5 stars. Brews fast, consistent coffee. Thermal carafe last for hours and hours.. not that my coffee lasts that long! Owed for 6 months now. Only problem I have had was grind size too small, and it will overflow. Odd they didn't put a lip on the carafe for easier pouring, maybe to cool the coffee a bit before serving? I would highly recommend this product.

Good but with problems
We have had the Technivorm for a few weeks. The coffee is consistently good but I have a couple of concerns. A full pot only gives us 4 full cups of coffee which means I have to make at least 2 pots each morning for the 3 of us. After more than just a couple hours, the coffee in the carafe is not hot enough for me. And nothing really seems to fit together. The carafe sits on a plastic piece that slips out of place each time I slide it out from under the cabinets to fill the water reservoir. The lids on the water reservoir and coffee filter just lay on top - they don't snap on in any way. The coffee pot doesn't connect to the filter section so the coffee is exposed to the air as it drops down into the carafe, thereby cooling it unnecessarily. And you have to change the lids in the carafe-one is for making the coffee and one is for sealing it after. But the one that seals it doesn't really allow you to pour coffee without removing it (unless you are ok with it pouring out pretty sloppily). If the coffee wasn't as consistently good as it is, I'd have already returned it. But I still haven't decided with certainty to keep it.

Best ever
As a coffee lover and one who's had virtually every famous name coffee-maker, this is by far the best from a taste and temperature standpoint. It's also the simplest to operate, which has real plusses. Literally the best and I would buy for friends and buy again for ourselves. Enjoy!

Disappointed
Everyone in my family in Europe has the glass version of the Mochamaster and have had theirs for years and years. My husband buys me this one and not only does it not make full flavored coffee (probably because the water runs through the coffee beans too fast) but it broke after 1 month. The little white rubber button got stuck after it flooded itself. Really annoyed.

Does this grind the coffee beans?
A shopper on Dec 15, 2014
Best Answer: No, it does not. Although, I am not convinced that Illy's ground coffee is bad, the dark roast was actually pretty delicious. We have a grinder and it is a bit of an extra effort that I am not sure is necessary. Just my opinion though, I also want to add that I am a latte drinker and always have milk with my coffee.

Bonavita® 8-Cup Coffee Maker with Thermal Carafe
Best Answer: Hi Hannah,
The Bonavita 8 cup thermal coffee maker does not have a programable feature...but it really makes great coffee! I just get it ready before I go to bed and all my husband has to do in the a.m. Is push the "on" button and in truly just about 3 minutes it is ready! The glass lined thermal carafe keeps the coffee super hot for several hours without changing the taste. I'm picky about coffee and this one is fantastic!!!

I hate filling a coffee maker with the carafe or measuring cup. So my question is, can the plastic water container be removed and filled at the sink? That would make it the perfect coffemaker.
A shopper on Dec 3, 2015
Best Answer: It cannot be removed, but I keep a glass carafe in the fridge and use that. Then the water I add to the maker is filtered and cold when I add it. Great coffee every time. Love this coffee maker. Worth every penny when you have coffee daily.

Where is the scale indicator?
Janet T on Jun 16, 2015
Best Answer: Janet, I'm sorry, I'm not sure what you're referring to for a scale indicator. If you're talking about measuring coffee beans, this coffee maker does not grind beans at all (it looks like it might - that's why I thought that might be what you're asking.) If you're talking about measuring/weighing grounds, that you would measure out with a separate scoop - there is no weighing part of this machine. If you're talking about measuring the water input, there are numbers on the outside of the water chamber. It is measured differently than in the USA (not sure where you are.) It is measured by serving size, with 4 ounces being a "serving." So the "2" mark is actually 1 U.S. measuring cup, and the 4 mark is 2 U.S. measuring cups. I hope that answers your question!

I have an 8 cup thermal carafe model and several parts have a 7 inside the triangle. Does that not indicate that it is not BPA free?
Richard P on Aug 16, 2015
Best Answer: I don't know, good question for the manufacturer. Being a European company--and more importantly, being mfg in Europe--I would think that the most current safety standards would be adhered to,

How hard or easy is cleaning the metal thermal carafe?
A shopper on Jun 16, 2015
Best Answer: I wash the carafe with a bottle brush; the grounds container, and the lid are hand washable, but I have put these black plastic pieces in the dishwasher without any problems. Not the carafe, though. That's it. Once ever hundred times, I use a coffee pot descaler, following instructions on the package for that. Just run a few cycles to wash and rinse the pieces. Overall, it is very easy to take care of this coffee maker. I enjoy non-bitter coffee everyday. It's that good. .I have never needed to clean the outside of the metal column that heats the water.

Does it have a timer?
A shopper on Dec 5, 2015
Best Answer: no it does not have a timer BUT it is very quick to make coffee, I sometimes load it and fill the water at night and then in the morning, simply push the on button and within 5 minutes the coffee is ready. It makes super coffee, and the carafe keeps the coffee warm for several hours. Highly recommend this machine

Does one need to pre-warm the metal carafe in order to keep the coffee hot? Or does the hot coffee itself warm the carafe without losing too much heat?
Roni K on Dec 3, 2015
Best Answer: I find that pre-warming the carafe with hot tap water does help it to maintain a nice hot drinkable temperature for longer than brewing into a cold carafe. I always give the carafe a rinse (from the prior day's coffee) and then fill it with hot tap water to warm the carafe while I'm making coffee. The carafe is fantastic, by the way. It holds heat for hours. I have even drunk day-old coffee that tasted fresh (something I've tried and spit out in the past with other makers.) The carafe is so air-tight that the coffee stays hot for hours and tastes fresh the next day. Very impressive.

filters what kind?
A shopper on Aug 12, 2015

Moccamaster makes its own filters which are a bit nicer but just the same and more expensive. Hope it helps

We used a similar but old device in Sweden but we didn't note its manufacturer. One feature that we liked, apart from the carafe alternative to the heated jug, which makes terrible coffee, was the push button at the base of the machine where the carafe, when pushed into the machine, switches it on to start the process (and off again when the carafe is removed). Does this version have that facility?
Roger B on Aug 14, 2015
Best Answer: Yes, the thermal carafe will pause the brewing process if the carafe is removed. That is to say it will not heat or put more water onto the grounds until the carafe returns. It has the same button at the base that you mentioned on your other model

Why would this machine not be programmable?
A shopper on Oct 25, 2015
Best Answer: I asked myself that question before I bought one. I believe it is because the actual brewing takes so little time. If you had it set to go on, you would not enjoy that wonderful aroma as it quickly brews. I thought my husband would be very unhappy that it would not be programmable but it has worked out well in our kitchen. You will be spoiled by the temperature (always perfect) and by the taste (always delightful). Enjoy!

How can I get a replacement carafe? The carafe I have keeps coffee "warm" at best, 40 minutes. Not sure why it keeps being promoted as keeping coffee warm for hours. It has never been placed in the dishwasher or submerged for cleaning. Just does not keep coffee hot at all.
Kara V on Dec 17, 2015
Best Answer: Greatest limitation of this otherwise excellent coffeemaker - our carafe never kept the coffee appropriately warm, and now (admittedly several years of use later) has lost all insulation properties - again, no dishwasher, submersion, etc.

Replacement carafes are available, but pricey. We solved the problem by purchasing a well-insulated carafe, and simply transfer the fresh coffee. A little frustrating for a > $300 machine, but it works.
