Indispensable for all types of baking
These Silpat baking mats revolutionized my view of baking. Clean-up and ease of removing my baked products changed 200%, plus I was not spending more money on parchment paper. Now, I don't mind how many times a week we bake, as I know clean up is done in a pinch. Even my daughter is willing to clean them. Our baked goods are never stuck, whether we accidentally burn them or they are perfectly baked. They do stain with use, but it does not affect any baking of foods. We use these mats to bake pastries, cookies, cook oven-fried foods and reheat foods in the oven. I do not miss greasing my pans, accidentally over-scrubbing my non-stick pans, or wrestling with curled parchment paper - those days are over! These Silpat mats brought the fun back into baking

Great thing to have
This mat is great for many things. Sometimes you can get by using parchment paper instead, but there are things that are easier with one of these

Professional Grade Excellence
These mats are excellent in all regards. Two important things to note:
1 - when they say hand wash, do not take this lightly; one turn in the dishwasher will do serious harm.
2 - they will eventually wear out, and I've never found a silplat mat that didn't. do not sweat this; I get about 30 months from mine before replacing them... less than a dollar per month, I'll take that deal

Amazing tool for all types of baking
My Silpat has changed the way I bake - no more need to cut and wrestle with parchment paper before baking! I like it especially for baking sweet yeast breads and rolls. Cleanup is a snap; simply hand wash with hot, soapy water and air dry. It's important to wash the mat between uses, because it can absorb odors and grease, leading to an ""off"" odor. It is normal for the mat to discolor with use. So far I only have it in the half sheet size, but would like to save up to purchase a variety of sizes. There is also a newer mat made especially for baking bread, the Silpain, that has a black surface to help crust brown as well as perforations to create a perfect crusty finish. Yes, it will eventually wear out, but is well worth the investment and making baking (and cleanup) a breeze

Makes me look like an expert
Love these mats! Was using parchment paper but tired of the cutting to fit my sheet pans. My cookies come out amazingly evenly baked so I look like the Expert baker! Would highly recommend to any baker, new or expert! Easy clean up, too.

The silpat mats help cookies and biscuits turn out perfect. You can use them for heating up pizza, without it sticking. You can use it to make candy too, such pralines. I highly recommend the silpat mat.

My daughter in law got these cookie mats for her wedding gift. I went to her house at Christmas time to help make cookies, these mats were a time saver because you don't need to oil the cookie sheet just put the mats on the cookie sheet and put your cookie dough on the mat and bake. I love them so now I will have the mat for my self

Is this a Half Sheet size?

There seems to be two sizes that are relatively close. Is this the Half Sheet size or does the 11"" x 17"" fit better
A shopper on Feb 19, 2014
BEST ANSWER: I would use the 11"" x 17"". Because a half sheet pan is typically 13"" x 18"", the 11"" x 17"" would cover more area
Do these allow for crisping/browning?

If you use these in the oven, will it allow the food to get crispy? Or will it promote sogginess
A shopper on Oct 29, 2011
BEST ANSWER: I have had no problem with soggy food and my food baked on these mats do come out crispy. Depending on what I am baking, I sometimes turn my food item over to bake on both sides. I typically remove items to cool elsewhere - i.e., cookies on a cooling rack, chicken on paper towels or a platter, etc
Can you trim the silicone baking mats to fit your cookie sheet? I have a 15 x 10 cookie sheet and can't find that size mat.
Linda M on Dec 7, 2014
BEST ANSWER: Do not cut the Silpat® as the fiberglass mesh particles might migrate into the food.
How many sheets come in a purchase of one?
A shopper on Oct 31, 2012
BEST ANSWER: These nonstick mats provide even heat transfer and release foods easily from the baking sheet. Made of food-grade silicone reinforced glass weave, Silpat baking mats are effective in temperatures from -40 to 480°F. Wipe clean with a damp sponge.

The cost is for 1 mat.
Is it possible to use both sides of the mat?
timothy P on Feb 19, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Yes. Totally.
How do you get stains off Silpat?
barbara on Oct 19, 2014
BEST ANSWER: Try washing it with hot water & dish detergent, then using a nylon scrubber in tight circles. Rinse it, then look for any soiled areas. Pour about 1/4" layer of baking soda on the places that are still stained, then rub it in with a wet scrubber and let the paste dry completely. After that, wash & rinse again.
Where is the mat made from?
A shopper on Apr 20, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Some sort of amazing silicone. I have used my first Silpat for around 8 years and am just now replacing it with a new one. Couldn't live without!
Are the corners like the ones shown in the picture?

Are the corners on these pointed or are they the traditional corners that silpat usually has where they are cut off?The picture shows both
A shopper on Oct 11, 2012
BEST ANSWER: The corners of the silpat baking mats are not pointed; they are cut diagonally.
Can you roast tomatoes on Silat?
A shopper on Sep 10, 2016
BEST ANSWER: yes. I roast all of my vegetables on it.
Can you use instead of foil? Can you use it in a toaster oven?
Andrea K on Jan 1, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Yes. It is perfect if you don't have parchment paper or foil.
