Lovely dishes
The Italian Frutta 16 piece set is gorgeous. The plates are big. Love these dishes.

Beautiful Dishes
My new Frutta dinnerware is absolutely beautiful! I love the big plates and the bowls are a perfect size for soup, cereal, or even salad. My husband and I both find the big cups are easy to handle with very comfortable grips. I was especially impressed upon receipt of the shipment at the packaging. Not one piece of the dinnerware was broken nor even chipped. My order from Sur la Table was shipped promptly and arrived as projected on my order confirmation

Beautiful but word of warning
Love my new dishes but be sure that they will fit in your cabinets. Due to the lip on the bottom of the shelf, I need to put 2 small plates on the bottom of the dinner plates or else the door will not close. Fortunately my husband came up with this great idea

I bought pasta bowls from this collection, and was so enthralled with the quality and design that I decided to order more of these accompaniments to build my set. They are lovely.

Why is the Frutta dinnerware not appropriate for microwave use?

I really like this set, but if it cannot be used in the microwave, that is a deal-breaker for me
A shopper on Nov 19, 2013
BEST ANSWER: This set is not microwave safe because it is earthenware. Earthenware is a slightly porous material that has the potential to absorb small amouts of water causing it to expand when heated. As it heats up, it will further expand, causing it to crack and in some cases shatter
Are they microwave safe?
A shopper on Oct 26, 2013
BEST ANSWER: This set is not recommended for microwave use.
Does this design have soup bowls? I see them in the picture.
Shersher on Jul 1, 2014
BEST ANSWER: This set does not have soup plates. I think what you might be seeing is the serving platter.
square dinnerware vs round

Is the pattern in the square set of dinnerware the same exact as purchasing the plates, etc. separately? Is is the same as the round plates? (related: furtta square 16 piece dinnerware on sale
A shopper on Oct 27, 2013
BEST ANSWER: If you purchase the square plates seperately, they will have the exact same pattern as the square plates in the set. However, the round plates have a pattern that differs slightly from the square plates, as the square plates have more grapes on them
decor of round dinner plate versus square dinner plate

I would LOVE to see the difference visually of the round dinner plate versus the square dinner plate of the Frutta dinner ware.Is this possible for you to display online?Thank you

BEST ANSWER: Here's a good picture I found of the square Frutta Dinnerware.
This is in further question to the microwave appropriate question. If put in the dishwasher, the dishes will obviously get wet and then heated in th

drying cycle, so what prevents them from cracking or shattering then
A shopper on Jan 29, 2014
BEST ANSWER: The difference is in the way they heat. Here's some really good information I found online:""The magnetron inside the oven converts ordinary electric power from a wall socket into very short radio waves, which are then transmitted at a frequency of about 2450 Megahertz. At that frequency, power is readily absorbed by water, fats and sugars, resulting in very fast vibration and high temperatures that cook the food...Dishwashers use an electric heating element that creates a low-level of heat for a longer period of time, so the risk of hot spots is low...The water in home dishwashers only reaches 130 to 150 degrees, and the truth is that it would need to reach 250 degrees to sterilize. Even commercial dishwashers (which wash a full rack in under 3 minutes) only reach temperatures of 180 degrees F."
