Outstanding performance with looks to match
I have been cooking for years and am the go to guy for all holiday, birthday, and family (all 17 of them and counting) celebration meals. I purchased the Mauviel Mcollection 10 Piece set to replace a set of Kirkland Signature 3-ply stainless cookware that had served me pretty well.

It was time to upgrade and I had been trying to decide between All-Clad and Mauviel Mcook. When I saw the Mcollection on the cover of the latest Sur la table catalog, I was immediately struck by the looks of the set. I tend to like things that are different from everything else, and the brushed steel look of the Mcollection definitely stands out. Because the nearest Sur la table store is a two-hour drive, I went to and did some homework. From the description of the product, it seemed that the Mcollection is the same high quality 5-layer construction as Mauviels Mcook line. Because I had already been considering Mcook, and because a 9 piece set of Mcook is over $950.00, I ordered the Mcollection set sight unseen. Sur la table has a generous return policy so I knew if for some reason I was unhappy, the order could be returned.

When the set arrived, any buyers remorse I was experiencing, (from spending $700.00 to replace a perfectly serviceable set of stainless cookware) vanished. After having looked at several Mauviel Mcook pieces, I can say the Sur la table Mcollection is of the same high quality. The pans are heavy and thick but not to the point of being cumbersome. The handles are long and fit the hand nicely. The lids are heavy and tight fitting. The exterior is as pictured, a very nice looking brushed stainless steel with FRANCE and SLT stamped neatly to the left of the Mauviel 1830 cast stainless handles.

Good looks are worth nothing in the kitchen with out performance. I have been using the set for over a week now and have been very impressed. I use an electric glass top range at home and glass tops are notorious for slow heating. All the pieces in this set heat quickly and evenly. The 8-inch nonstick pan, while smaller than I would prefer, performs nicely on both omelets and over easy eggs. The 3.4 qt saut and 6.4-qt. fait tout are my favorites in the set. (I would like to see a helper handle on the 3.4 qt saut) They are very versatile and can be used for all kinds of cooking applications. No matter if I am searing, braising, or simmering, every piece in the set has performed above expectations. The pans deglaze nicely and clean up is a snap. (Sur la table says they are dishwasher safe but I have been hand washing.) For the sake of comparison, I do own a couple of All-Clad pieces and really like them. That said the Mcollection pans perform at least as well as my All-Clad stainless.

I like the set so much that I also ordered the Windsor pan and the 10.5 qt stock pot. I would highly recommend the Sur la table Mauviel Mcollection de Cuisine 10 Piece Set.

One thing I will add, it would be GREAT to see Sur la table come out with Mauviel Mcollection saucier pans!

High quality heavy 5 layer construction
Quick and even heating
Versatile sized pieces in the set
Easy clean up
Good value vs All-Clad and Mauviel Mcook
Great looks

Would prefer 9 or 10 inch nonstick skillet
No helper handle on 3.4 qt saut

I hope this review has been helpful. Cheers

Excellent quality for the money
I purchased this set for my daughter who was just moving into her first apartment after college. My intention was to get her started with a cook set that was good enough that she'd want to expand it, rather than replace it, later in life. We have the Mauviel M'250c in our kitchen, which is the best cookware made, especially if you have a gas stove. I wanted something approaching that for my daughter, but was a bit lighter in weight and lighter on the wallet. What's special about Mauviel cookware is that the side walls are just as thick as the bottom, so they don't overheat and scorch. The pots in this cook set meet that criteria. If you're not going to spend thousands on cookware, then this Mauviel set is an excellent choice

Nice look & feel, performance good
I purchased a set and added to the set after redoing my kitchen in May of this year. I purchased without examining in the store. The Mauviel pots and pans feel great in your hands and on the stove. They look great, a huge step above my last stainless steel set from Belgium.

I have a few comments and suggestions for Sur La Table and Mauviel to improve the product. This comes from my observations over the past 5 months of heavy usage.

1) They seem to scratch on the bottom very easily. I have a stove with cast iron grates, they're doing a good job scratching up the bottoms. I would have wanted the bottoms to be a bit more hardy given the price.

2) They are lighter, the overall mass is less than All Clad. Heft means great cooking, heat retention, less sticking. Heft also feels like better quality.

3) The handles curve upwards, love the feel and working with them but if you put them in the oven, you need to really move or remove one of the racks to make it work.

4) The stainless steel discolors on the bottom from the gas heat. Related to #1 above, the bottom could be thicker and tougher to avoid the scratches and discoloration. If you examine All Clad, the bottom is hardier.

5) The stainless steel on the inside of the pots and pans seems like it could be thicker and smoother. To get it looking new after using and drying, I wipe them with a bit of oil to bring the luster to what it was when new.

Overall I am satisfied with my purchase. I added a few matching pieces and my overall spend into this new set is around $1200. I have had second thoughts, should have went with All Clad brushed, and am working through reconciling that in my mind. I will stick with these for now and when our daughter graduates college, I might give these to her and purchase a new set to move into the next 20 years of cooking.

Thank you for the opportunity to share my experience with these.

The jury is still out.
I have been cooking with a set of Revere Ware since 1967. These are the first new pans I've had since then. What I like best are the high sides of the skillets, which saves the mess from stirring and sautéing. What I haven't liked much is the scratching of the pans on the bottom, which occurred immediately. And they don't seem to get clean with a hand washing with liquid soap. Or at least they don't look clean & shiny -- there is a kind of film on the bottom of the pan. Most of the pieces are too large for the dishwasher. I did love getting the extra skillet (though it doesn't have a top.) Still, this is an expensive item. So thus my title.
