I've never written a review before but this deserves one
Over the course of many years I've attempted pizza in a million ways/pans/stones/doughs and all have been ok-ish.
Most recently I've used a sur la table metal stone in my gas oven, which has been good, but not exactly ecologically friendly with the instructions to heat the oven for an hour at the highest cook a 5 minute pizza.
Petite pizzeria is fantastic. THE best results I've ever had.
shape your pizza base, only put on tomatoe sauce, put on the two half pizza peels, ease onto the stone, THEN put on cheese etc.
I think pre heating it hotter than 1.5 is better for a browner bottom crust
The first time using it, I would let it cook for more than 10 mins at high heat to burn off the chemical smell.

Best homemade pizza
The only thing stopping me from giving 5 stars on this really wonderful pizza oven is the (relative) difficulty of getting the pizza ON the stone. However, we found that if you create your pizza crust and get it ready before adding ANY toppings, it's easier to slide onto the stone (flour liberally on the bottom) and THEN assemble the toppings. It makes PERFECT pizza then

Great Pizza Maker
From a self confessed pizza fanatic, I was hoping this Petite Pizzaria pizza maker would live up to its hype. And boy was I happy it did!! The pizza was crispy on the bottom, and bubbly on the top. I could not believe how fast it cooked!! I would make sure though to flour the dough really well since mine got a bit sticky, but other than that it was the easiest dinner I've ever made! I live in NYC and the pizza that came out rivals some of the great New York pies :) Highly recommend to everyone

We have used this oven twice since Christmas, with fantastic results both times! Warmed up the oven on 2, then turned it down to 1.5 for about 15-20 minutes. We did turn it up to 2 at the end for a little browning on the cheese.

We normally ordered pizza once a week with about $25 out of pocket after tipping the driver, so this oven will have a payback after two more uses - not to mention we know the ingredients are fresh!

Both attempts were made using pre-made crusts, 8oz of sauce, and moderate toppings. Looking forward to experimenting with new recipes

Great Pizza.......but
Product worked perfectly for about 8 pizzas.... but now there is not enough heat from the bottom element. Dough sticks to stone and only top gets done. I hope this is only a defective unit and not inherent to the product. Paddles are useless because if they get wet or damp they will warp.....but not a deal breaker....we have a good peel wo we will use that. Will return for an exchange and hope the new one will work as well as the first one before it failed

Great pizza and easy to use!
The first thing I noticed when I took The Petite Pizzeria oven out is hove lightweight it is and how small a space it took up. From the time I took it out of the box until the first pizza was made was about 25 minutes, and that included ten minutes of letting the oven burn off lubricants since it was the first time it was used. So simple. Preheat, spread out dough, add ingredients, put pizza on stone, close top, turn up heat, and five minutes later I had a pizza. I have to say that it was really good. I half expected the crust to be unevenly cooked, but it was perfect all the way through. In less than an hour and almost no work at all I had eight pizzas using toppings from tomatoes to cheese to bbq brisket to eggs and even cream cheese with bananas and honey. Everything was awesome! Sure I got flour all over the place, but I�m a sloppy cook. The only issues occurred due to me not the oven. If any toppings end up on the stone they will burn and stink up the kitchen. After the first few pizzas you learn how to spread the dough and add toppings so that nothing leaks or falls on the stone. The two people I shared the pizzas with were both very impressed with the speed of cooking and the quality of the pizza. One said - This is better than most pizzas you buy at a store. The other thing is all eight pizzas cost me $5 worth of dough. All of the toppings were items I had in the house already. The favorite pizza for all was the mashed potato with pulled pork and hot sauce! I would recommend this item to anyone

Best appliance in my kitchen
I bought this because i love pizza but hate to heat up the oven only to cook something for less than 10 minutes. It's not the largest surface but since a pizza takes less than 4 minutes to cook in this for thin crust, we can easily make personal pizzas for everyone. This works particularly well for thin crust/cracker crust St. Louis style pizza. Getting the crust crispy is hard to do in the oven and it's easy with this pizza maker. I've used it four months and have had no problems

Fun In The Kitchen
I received The Petite Pizzeria as a gift and was pleasantly surprised because I had not seen anything like it before. The ease of use and speed of cooking are the greatest advantages in my fast paced life. I used the pre-made frozen (thawed of course) pizza dough balls from HEB. Central Market and Whole Foods carry similar fresh/frozen pizza dough balls. Each ball is the perfect size for making two pizzas�.dinner and dessert! Highly recommend the Nutella-Bananna dessert pizza! My grandson is a bit young yet to be cooking, but when he�s old enough, he�ll be right beside me making his own pizza! A great fun, quick and delicious way to encourage young people to get in the kitchen! Highly recommend this product

Fantastic purchase - so pleased!
I bought this for my husband as a Hanukkah gift in November, and we have been thrilled with it. I lived in Italy for a while, and this is far and away the tool that makes the closest thing to real Italian pizza. It took some experimentation to find the right thickness for the pizza to come out as we wanted it, but boy, now that we've figured it out, this thing makes some really good pizza!! I will say I find it awkward to assemble the pizza on the paddles and get it to drop cleanly onto the stone, but I'm going to play around with that to see what can be done to make that go a little more smoothly. Overall, though, we are thrilled with this item

Thi thing really works !
I have owned two restaurants and have built three wood burning ovens . I was very skeptical of this oven , I didn't really believe it would reach 600 degrees I have a digital temp gauge and to my surprise it did reach temp in a very short time ! my only wish is that it was just 2 or 3 inches wider . Truly a great deal for the money.

Would have preferred the Pizzeria Pronto Stovetop Pizza Oven, but it only works with a gas range. This unit has good reviews so was the next best thing.

This is a wonderful Pizza Oven. My son and I use it several times a month to make our own personal pizzas. He is 3 and enjoys making his own pizza and eating his creation. We enjoy it so much, we just bought the grandparents one for Christmas and know they will enjoy it as well! We buy the pizza dough balls at a local pizza place and freeze them so it is so easy to use and is much cheaper than ordering out!

I love this oven but the stone is now REALLY nasty and burnt, the burnt taste is affecting the pizzas. I have scraped but it is BLACK. Maybe it is the olive oil keeping the dough pliant, but I need a new stone. HELP! What can I do?

BEST ANSWER: I roll my dough out on parchment paper to keep the stone cleaner but you want to season your stone so it makes it easier to remove the pizza and easier to clean. The blacker the better! There are a lot of sites that can tell you how to "season" your stone.
how do you transfer the pizza to the hot stone?

We are struggling with this seemingly easy to use device. We are using fresh dough from Trader Joes, but can't seem to transfer the pizza from the wooden paddles to the hot stone without incurring a huge mess. We flour both the wooden paddles and the stone, but the dough completely sticks to the paddles and the pizza refuses to budge. When flouring the stone the flour burns and the whole machine starts smoking (even on a low temp). What are we doing wrong? Are you guys starting with the dough on the stone? Everyone says this is the easiest thing to use - help!

BEST ANSWER: I highly suggest you use cornmeal instead of flour on the paddle and stone. We here in Customer Service initially had a very similar issue, but when cornstarch was used to make pizza #2, it came out beautifully

BEST ANSWER: Here is no replacement stone for this.I called customer service and the company that makes the unit and they donot sell a replacement stone.I have my unit in an unopened box and because its past the datevfor a refund they will not give me my money back or a store credit.I will not be purchasing anything else from Sur La Table.
Does using gluten free dough require anything different?

BEST ANSWER: My daughter-in-law found a gluten-free dough. It is called ""Pamela's Bread Mix"". I found it in the organic section at Kroger's - one of the newer nicer stores. It is also available thru Amazon. In addition, Bob's Red Mill has a similar product. Read the Amazon reviews for handling of this dough. I have Pamela's, which I will use soon for a visiting friend, and the package instructions are NOT as specific as some of the Amazon suggestions! You do Not need a stand mixer with whisk attachment. Julie pre-baked hers in the oven, then slid it onto the Pizzeria stone. It came out beautifully
Thawed or frozen pizza dough, ambiguous directions

Two places in the instruction booklet say the dough should be thawed if frozen pizza is used, and yet on 'Style of Pizza Bases' it says that frozen pizza can be put directly in the unit straight from the freezer. Which is it? I use gluten free frozen pizza as well as fresh GF dough, and I don't want to damage the unit

BEST ANSWER: I looked through this manual twice and I couldn't find anywhere that suggested you could put frozen dough into this pizza oven without first defrosting the dough. I suggest defrosting all pizzas before cooking them.
What is the height from stone surface to the heating element

I like to put on toppings that can be rather high, so how high can toppings be applied before hitting the top heating element? And does the crust get a nice char flavor

BEST ANSWER: From the top of the stone to the heating coil, there is 1 1/2"" of space. I don't believe that this oven really provides a char flavor. If you're looking for a good char, I'd suggest taking a look at the Pizzeria Pronto, as it reaches the high temperature you'd need to achieve this flavor
Can the non stick pan be removed?

I don't cook with non stick ... Don't think it's healthy so can the non stick part be removed?

BEST ANSWER: Yes, the nonstick pan can be removed, but you won't be able to make deep dish pizzas without it
How do you clean the pizza stone?

Our first two attempts were really wonderful. On this third attempt the pizza burnt horribly on the bottom and was not edible at all. So now it's got alot of built up crud on the stone. I have a scrubber but won't it get burnt the next time now? Also, any ideas of why it burnt so badly? We followed the same procedure as last time

BEST ANSWER: The easiest way to remove build up from this stone is to simply burn it off. To keep your crust from burning in the future, I can tell you from experience that it's best to be very liberal with the cornstarch
I just messed up. I read the directions when I first got my pizzeria, but forgot I couldn't put the stone in water. I did. Now, what happens? Do I have to toss it out or can I purchase a new stone? When I transferred my pizza from the paddles some of the cheese slipped off and made a horrible mess. Thanks.

BEST ANSWER: Putting the stone in water is not a problem. The problem is using detergent or oven cleaner. If you just used water, that is what you are supposed to do along with a stiff bristle brush to clean the stone. I then put in the oven or back in the pizzeria for 30-60 minutes to dry it out (especially any water that may get trapped along the metal handles and rim.) My wife and I have been very impressed with the ease and consistency of making pizzas with this small easy to use machine. Good luck

If there is a pizza pan out there that fits inside the unit, can it be used instead of just sliding the dough off the peel? I suppose there might be the problem of the pan warping while exposed to the heat but I don't know about that. How hot does the unit get

Using both paddles, insert one from each side of the pizza (using beveled edge like a scraper) and pick up pizza to transport to cutting board or other servicing dish.

BEST ANSWER: The stone and the electric coil become very very hot. I would not let a child place the pizza on the stone. I would absolutely recommend adult supervision. However I think it could be a great cooking experience: making the dough, patting it out, putting cheese/sauce/veggies on the pizza is FUN. But let an adult do the transferring onto the hot stone.
Does the bottom of the Pizzeria get extremely hot?

BEST ANSWER: the cooking surface gets the right amount of hot to cook your pizza. You can control the temp with a knob.. I can really say about under the cooking surface though. There are plenty of safety handles to hold so you do not need to worry about burning yourself. We put the unit on the counter to cook and have never had a problem. We love our pizza maker!!!good luck and hope this answered your question

BEST ANSWER: We have used this to make Quesadillas, Open faced pizzas (using pita bread or tortillas), cooking frozen pizzas and even toasting bread with ham and light cheese - we love it.

BEST ANSWER: Pizzas cook in generally 5 minutes on 2.5 heat setting. If you make a dozen in one night, opening it frequently, they can take 6-10 minutes each if you like them crisp.
My unit smokes REALLY BAD?

BEST ANSWER: Mine only smoked/smelled the first time I used it (including the pre-heating) or before I learned to turn the temperature down a smidgen when pizza began burning on top.
However I have an idea you might check... Last night we used ours and when I lifted the stone off to scrape off debris, I noticed that there were some completely charred tidbits inside the unit, near the heating elements. Have you checked there?
Has anyone every tried a gluten free, non-grain crust such as an almond meal crust?

BEST ANSWER: You cannot just substitute any type of gluten-free flour for any other because in many instances you get a mess because of consistency factors. Bisquick makes a good gluten-free baking mix with a pizza crust recipe on the back. The consistency of this is closest to a regular pizza crust plus they tell you to add Italian pizza seasoning to it and it is a heavenly aroma while cooking.
I read somewhere that this oven can be used to bake Indian naan because of the high temperature attainable. Any experience with this or similar?

BEST ANSWER: I have never made Indian naan before. From what I can tell this is typically cooked in a skillet or on a griddle. I used my pizzeria for the first time last night. I cooked a frozen, thin crust pizza. It worked great.

BEST ANSWER: My grandkids love using this for homemade and premade frozen pizzas. Because it gets very hot, I would recommend adult supervision, but it is probably safer than having them use a very hot oven.

BEST ANSWER: I tend to purchase the pre-made pizza dough available at our grocery store and then divide each ball into two. If you stretch that our pretty thinly, it makes a crust that we think is just the right size for an adult personal pizza or to be split between two young kids
