A Kettle for the 21st Century
I recently discovered the joys of pour-over coffee, and had been using my grandmother's old copper kettle to heat the water each morning. Although I love that old kettle, I finally had to admit that it really wasn't up to the task I had been using it for. After doing some on-line research, I settled on this electric kettle and I immediately fell in love. It heats fast & maintains an accurate temperature, there's virtually no danger of boil-dry (thank you for that, design team), it remembers the previously-selected temperature even if unplugged (which I always do with every appliance I own), build quality seems very high, it pours nicely, the lid fits tightly so it won't fall out while pouring, the bottom stays cool enough to set on just about any surface, and it has a commercial-grade UL rating. Yes, this thing was pretty expensive, but I feel it is worth every penny. Whoever designed this great device was really using their head; kudos to them!

Heats quickly, maintains the set temperature, and pours nicely. Allows me to perform better (and easier) when making coffee in my Chemex. I also use it when brewing tea, since they all have different temperature requirements, depending on the type. Very happy with this kettle!

We bought this to make both coffee and tea. My husband and I make coffee at different times in the morning and I make tea most afternoons, so we are using it pretty much three times a day. The goose-neck spout gives excellent control for the coffee pour-over. The temperature settings for the coffee and different temperatures for the different teas seem to work nicely. Heats up very quickly, and is attractive on the counter. We've had it three weeks now, and am very happy so far.
One warning - it has a pretty small capacity - 1 liter. This is fine for individual pots of coffee and a medium size tea pot, but if you are making a few cups of coffee at a time, or have a large teapot you should get a bigger kettle.
Btw - I am using 212 for black teas (temperature recommended by place I get my teas).

A Disappointment
I received my tea kettle about one month ago and spent the first three weeks trying to get it to heat to my specified temperature. It stops and signals "HI--ERROR" every time, somewhere between 187 and 201, usually in the 190s. If I turn it off and restart it, it goes then to 208 or 9, where I've set it. I finally called Bonavita last week and have been promised a replacement kettle. I am looking forward to a kettle that functions as promised!

My son in law, a barista trainer at the Urban Coffee Lounge in Kirkland, Washington outside of Seattle wants this for Christmas so shhhhh don't tell him I bought it. Says it's essential when you are making Chemex.

Does the water come into contact with any plastic parts while heating? Or is the inside of the kettle totally stainless steel?
Rachel E on Aug 9, 2015
Best Answer: There is plastic inside, which holds the handle on. The fill line is below this. So the answer is no, it doesn't come in contact while heating. It could, however, bead off the plastic. I share your concerns. I've thought about retrofitting the handle with metal and wood. Anyway, after much research, this is the kettle I ended up with. It's awesome and I would definitely recommend. You just need to teach people about the fill line, otherwise they'll fill it too high and the water would touch the plastic.

How many cups of water will it hold if I heat up water and want to pour into 2-3 cups to serve to others?
A shopper on Jan 18, 2016
Best Answer: It's 1litre so just over 4 cups. We usually make one large cup of coffee, one medium cup of tea and there is easily water left for a good size 3rd cup or 2 smaller.
