It is true that the top of the chicken will touch the inside of the grill lid if you are cooking on a Weber Spirit model gas grill. However, if you are cooking on the mid-size (next size up) Weber Genesis gas grill, there is enough vertical clearance. (I have cooked on both.)
I like this roaster because the "can" part attaches to the base and does not pull off with the chicken. The separate cage piece that stands on the base over the "can" is easy to hold down as the chicken is lifted off or to remove from the chicken after removal from the base. I wonder if the chicken is placed over just the "can" part without use of the tall cage whether it would then be short enough to fit in the Spirit size grill without touching the lid.
The chicken comes out crispy and golden brown on the outside, and even the breast meat will be moist. I like that the base grill pan has room for roasting vegetables with the chicken or can be used separately.
Glad I bought this product, but it's a little overpriced. Use a coupon.
This product is basically worthless, as one cannot place the chicken onto the vertical structure and still shut the grill lid. We have the largest size dome-shaped Webber grill, and the inner part of the lid rests on top of the chicken with at least two inches between the bottom of the lid and the kettle. What a disappointment; unfortunately for us, tonight's dinner is not going to happen
