Water Temperature Too Low!
I had high hopes for the Nespresso Vertuoline. I was wrong.

Similarly to other reviews of the Vertuoline, the temperature of the coffee is too low.

Note: During the brewing process coffee is supposed to be between 195-200 degree F.

Generally speaking, I expect to have to wait a few minutes before drinking the coffee because it's too hot , however immediately after the Vertuoline brews the cup of coffee, it's already cooled down too much. If I wait a few minutes, the coffee becomes luke-warm and is undrinkable.

Sadly, my Vertuoline will be returned to Sur La Table

Extremely Disappointed!
As a reasonably pleased owner of a CitZ espresso maker for the past several years, I was excited to hear that Nespresso had developed a true single serving coffee maker. The CitZ makes a pretty good espresso for a pod system and has been in heavy daily use at making espresso for nearly 5 years. However, I sometimes desire a cup of coffee. I have exhaustively looked in the past to find a single serving coffee maker that was even remotely respectable at making a cup of coffee. I, unfortunately, continue to believe that it is not possible! The VertuoLine is no better!! It too makes watery, poor tasting coffee. Buyer beware. If you are a discerning coffee drinker do not waste your time or money on this machine. I will stick with my CitZ for espresso for now, and traditional coffee making methods for coffee as I continue my search

Not What I Hoped For
I wanted to love this machine. I really tried! In all fairness, my review is not of the machine itself but instead of the coffee that Nespresso offers for it. The machine is pretty neat and looks nice. Unfortunately Nespresso's coffees for it are just not good. It makes a mean espresso, but so do their other designs that are dedicated to that purpose. The coffee it turns out is thin and just not at all satisfying. I bought extra sleeves of the only coffee pod that I didn't completely hate (Odacio) in hopes of convincing myself that it was worth keeping. Unfortunately Odacio is only good in comparison to others. I have a Keurig that I stock with Costco's Pacific Bold blend for regular use and company - while drinking from my VertuoLine I found myself wishing I was drinking my Cosco coffee. The price of the Nespresso pods in this case is just not in line with the quality of the cup. I can't justify it. The only way I could get a cup that tasted good was by making a cup of coffee and then making an espresso to dump in it. Made as a cup without the espresso added in, it tasted much like what you'll get if you try to reuse a k-cup for a 2nd brew. I own several Nespresso machines for espresso and I love them. This one though - I'm returning it

"High Quality Build, Lacking Features and Temp."
I was excited to see Nespresso come out with a machine that was geared towards North America. I liked that you could make espresso and regular long pour coffee. The build quality is top notch and the machine is extremely easy to use. Just pop one of the new $0.75 espresso cups or $0.95 long pour coffee cups and the machine figures out which one you inserted into the machine. Within about 20 sec you have your espresso or coffee.

That is where my satisfaction stopped. I've been comfortable with my Keurig for a couple of years, and the Nespresso machine is not even close in terms of temperature of coffee that it produces. I found that even if I add a little half and half to my coffee, the temperature goes from hot to luke warm. I'm sure if I also picked up the milk frothier, I wouldn't have had this issue, but I was not willing to pay another $50 for the bundle or $100 as a separate item, which requires me to spend more time on a simple cup of coffee with cream. If the machine allowed me to select a brew temperature setting and maybe even the size coffee I wanted, I would have not returned the my new Espresso Machine

Great Espresso Watery Coffee
As some other reviewers have mentioned, this makes great espresso--very very quickly. Also, as others have mentioned, the coffee is OK, but not nearly as good as from a regular (not single-serve) coffee machine. I guess it still tastes like an Americano--the flavor is strong, but how to describe it--""spiky""? Like some flavors are way to strong and some supporting notes are too weak--like you're listening to music through headphones half plugged in, so the volume has to be turned up too loud, but you still can't hear the whole thing.

The crema is nice--but the overall cup just isn't satisfying.

If you need a machine that makes espresso and occasionally you want a coffee, this might work. Otherwise, I'd probably go with another Nespresso machine and a quality coffee maker

Would not work
Bad experience with mine. Received as a gift and it would not work. Followed all the instructions, even the trouble shooting and even though it went through all the motions, nothing would happen, I tried the cleaning process several times and no water came out and same when I tried to make coffee. Was a father's day gift, so wife and daughter were really disappointed. Don't know it it was just a bad machine or if their quality control is just poor. Pity, because I loved it at Sur La Table and was really looking forward to it

Nespresso Steps it Up!
This is my 6th Nespresso machine, yet oddly enough it's the first one that can make a decent cup of regular coffee.

In the past, Nespresso has been my go-to for espressos at work, or late in the day when I want a quick taste. I haven't liked the ""Lungo"" brews however: too weak and bland for my taste.

The new VertuoLine uses a much larger pod to make a decent Americano. Not great, but it's better than Keurig (which I drink most mornings) and much simpler than a french press would be at the office. I've sampled all of the capsules, and most are very nice. Not a big fan of the flavored coffees, but the Hazelnut and Vanilla versions aren't too bad if you like those.

The espresso, on the other hand, is excellent, and very noticeably better than the original version. Out of curiosity, I cut open one of the ""Old"" Nespresso espresso capsules and one of the new, and compared the contents. It doesn't look like it from the photo, but the new capsules have about 20% more grounds inside by weight (see photo). Coupled with the new ""spin-cycle"" process, the VertuoLine cups are much richer than before.

My friends and I have done blind side-by-sides of both versions, and all agree that VertuoLine makes better espresso.

My recommendation: use up those old capsules, give the machine to a friend, and get the VertuoLine machine.

Don't take my word for it--go to a Sur La Table (or the other guys...) store and have them make one for you

Buy something else.
Real disappointment, mediocre espresso and watery lukewarm coffee. Too foamy, very loud! Expensive proprietary pods.

Fantastic machine, I just don't like the coffee
Long story short. I bought a fancy espresso machine and after a few months of fiddling I realized I just didn't have what it takes to pull a good shot. I didn't want to go back to a Keurig so I decided to return the Breville and go middle ground with the Vertuoline. The manager at my local SurLaTable was very helpful.
The machine itself works great and very consistently. My personal problem is I just don't like all the "cru" when I want a cup of coffee. Its not even like a nice foam, its like it was forced and too fluffly. You can't make "just a cup of black coffee" its always got an inch of bitter coffee fluff.

What this machine does well is make a great espresso so using it for that it works great. If all you want is easy espresso buy the other products from Nespresso, not Vertuoline.

Others LOVE the crema on their coffee, but not me.

Summary - great machine works well looks nice. If you like bitter crema with your coffee you'll probably like this a lot.

Not perfect but excellent
I taste tested before buying. The Espresso is great and the Americano is as well. I like my espresso and coffee full bodied and bold so I buy blends at the top of the scale. Anything less seems water t me. I find that true with an coffee. So if the Americano is too watery, buy a stronger blend. The Crema is he best part of the cup. It contains much of the volatile flavors. Someone called it "disgusting foam". The "foam" can b stirred into the cup or sipped and enjoyed for all of i's nuances. Stirring the crema into the cup will strengthen the flavor.

They vary the temperature for the blend just a tea lover does. The temperature affects the flavor. Black tea is great at 212 degrees, green tea would be ruined at any temperature higher than 185 degrees. The same can be true of coffee varieties.

Love at First Sip!
Wow! I've been looking for a single serve machine that actually delivers a great full cup of coffee and this is it! The coffee flavor is big and bold and the larger pod brews coffee that tastes like it came from a fresh French Press. The flavor is unbelievable, and when you stir in the rich crema it's unlike any coffee I've ever had before.

I also love the variety of pods, the Hazelnut is so good. Not sicky-sweet like some flavored coffee, just solid Hazelnut flavor. It's awesome, I love it.

If you want a single serve machine that actually delivers serious coffee for the sophisticated pallet, this is it

Get used to it
We thought the same thing about it not being hot enough. When you heat the coffee to much you can't enjoy the taste. We got used to it and are really enjoying the coffee. You can pop it in the microwave for 12 seconds if you want it a little hotter. The coffee is great. I don't know how anyone could find it watery. Good coffee should not be overheated. It ruins the flavor !! I think this is a great machine. We love it.

Excellent cup of coffee
I explored this machine along with the Citiz machine and chose the Vertuoline after tasting a cup of coffee at the store. I think that this machine makes a great cup of coffee though the coffee choices are limited. I think the choice of coffee will increase over time as more of these machines are sold. It is also hot enough for me with the aeroccino milk frother.

Almost Perfect!
This Nespresso fulfilled our need to reduce machines on the counter by combining their wonderful espresso machine with a regular coffee maker. The coffee is a delight, much higher quality and flavor than we got from the Keurig. For those complaining of the temperature, the machine is programmed to make each coffee style at a certain temp which is usually just fine for me, I do like it hot. But if you're adding milk, like me, you might have to give it a shot in the microwave to boost the temp. We live at altitude so not sure if that makes any difference, I just miss not being able to make tea and get hot water like the Keurig but can't stop loving the coffee, the design, and extra counter space.
One more thing, Nespresso has amazing customer service, as well. Had to call them on a Sunday when our new machine would not set up correctly. Not only was I surprised to get a knowledgeable rep on a Sunday but he couldn't have been nicer or more helpful - and our new Vertuoline started working like a champ!
Highly recommend.

$1.00 a cup.
Nespresso has ensured that no consumer will be able to brew anything but Nespresso in their makers. The technology sounds impressive. And expensive. But not worth the final cuppa.
If you drink two cups a day, do the math...
I don't mind paying for high quality, but my husband thinks the coffee pods a subpar.

Nespresso Wins again
Nespresso has done it again and created yet another awesome machine. This sucker still delivers an awesome shot of espresso but has now opened its doors to coffee lovers. Added bonus, this machine is much quieter than earlier models even though it is doing more; that whole spin thing which makes the coffee even better. For those households that have a coffee maker and an Nespresso, i.e. my parents, you can now take back that extra counter space with this one machine. Can you say Christmas Present?

A Winning Product
This new coffee brewer from Nespresso is a hit in our household! We had been given a competing brand single-cup style brewer, but had trouble finding coffee good enough to bother purchasing (and forget the hot chocolate and tea - talk about tasteless and watery). The Nespresso Vertuoline is a completely different story. It is easy to use and clean, and every single flavor of available coffee and espresso is superb. Highly recommended

Easy and Terrific!
Not sure where all the bad reviews come from because this is an awesome product! We have been using ours since it first came out and it has excelled at both coffee and espresso. The customer service to get more pods is unsurpassed-they practically have it at your doorstep the next day. I looked at all kinds of espresso machines and besides the high cost, the operational aspects were such that you practically had to be a barista! Nancy at Sur La Table in Woodmere, OH was extremely helpful when I was considering which coffee machine to get & said she thought I would love this one. She was absolutely correct. I highly highly recommend this! jstroud93

Love. It.
I have nothing but good things to say about this machine. It's easy to use, it makes coffee as well as espresso, it's easy to clean, it's inexpensive, and the coffee is phenomenal. I highly recommend it

Nespresso Vertuoline is outstanding
I ordered this after researching a variety of pod coffee and espresso makers and sampling some that tasted no different than old fashioned instant coffee crystals. The coffee and espresso this machine creates are out of this world! If you have been to Europe and long European roasted beans, you will love this machine. It is very easy to use and not cumbersome. I really like the layer of crema because it satisfies the desire for smoothness. I am no longer using half and half with the coffee drinks, so it is much healthier too. I haven't been to a coffee house since I got this, and will probably only go to hear an acoustic guitar player or some other social event

Big disappointment
My girlfriend used to work at your store and bought the new nespresso vertuo today (my birthday present). She doesn't drink coffee but I do (a lot). I honestly think I am going to return it.
The large coffee is HORRIBLE.
Very weak, I can barely taste the coffee and it has a huge amount of disgusting thick foam on top. I double checked the instructions, we are doing everything right. The design of the machine itself is cool but I am sticking to my Kcup for now
