Very good for quick small-batch
I am an experienced canner, jams, pickles, sauces... I like this product. It is good for small-batch jam-making. The recipe calls for around 3-4 cups of crushed berries, which is a little less than 2 pounds.
It is quick and easy and fool-proof.
Only down-side is that I generally do not use space and money for a single-purpose product. But, I will use this one a lot. A hundred dollars isn't a whole lot, considering how much I will use it, but it is a lot for something that just does one job

The results were perfect!
I have made jams and jellies for 40 plus years without one of these but this made it so easy. I used the berry recipe to make the blueberry jam and it came out perfect for spreading. Also, I used the reduced sugar recipe and did not use Ball pectin. It could have come out better. My only complaint is that the little cookbook that comes with it is in very small print. Just because small fonts are on a computer doesn't mean they should be used! I am serious! It is enough to keep me from buying things. Cookbooks need to be easy to read.

Jammin & Jivin'...SO FUN
If you are looking for a way to cook small delicious batches of jam or jelly. This is your product. I've always shied from the canning process. So many steps, so much time and so much clean up. No Thanks. I was intrigued when I saw this product on Surlatable's website. I read the reviews and decided I would take the plunge (this company has an excellent return policy). We love berry jams and my first attempt was blackberry/boysenberry jam. I added one more minute to the cooking process as we prefer a firmer jam. It turned out delicious! The cleanup was incredibly easy. The entire process took me 1 hour the prep of the berries the longest but still easy. For the first time in over 40 years of cooking, I'll be gifting homemade jams and jellies this Christmas.

No more standing and stirring molten fruit and sugar over the hot stove!
I was skeptical at first so I waited for a sale to buy it. Now that Ive used it. iI wonder why I made jam the old fashioned way for so many years!
I've made several batches of peach, strawberry and blackberry jams so far. I have no problem with small batches.
I've been able to "troubleshoot" it by accidentally using "instant" pectin, a different brand of dry pectin, and added sugar at same time as fruit (not recommended) but all batches turned out "A Okay".
There are plenty more recipes for the jam maker on the Ball website too! If you love jam and homemade biscuits on a weekend morning, you need this!!

A great sale price!
This is so easy to use and makes great jams! (Jellies are my next make!) You can't mess this up! The sale price is the cheapest you'll find and that includes the discount chains.
So glad I bought this.

Very good
I don't usually make jams or jellies and when I do, I almost always have problems with the "jelling" part. It is very easy to use but I messed up on the first batch as I didn't hear the beeps for the sugar. I have now made several batches using other recipes from other canning books. The only drawback is that it said to use a particular type of ball dry pectin and that was difficult to find even Ball store on line was out. I will try to make some using other dry pectin brands. I made some with the liquid pectin and it worked well. The addition of the butter makes all the difference in the world with the foaming. It's very easy to clean too. The required cool down time does allow you to prep for more batches.
I know that I will be making lots more.

I ended up returning the product. I ended up with WAY more fruit than expected. Batch size was just to small and the recipe book was pretty limited. Went back to the old fashioned way. The store was great about the return, ending up purchasing more goodies before I left.

I would love to know how many batches one can make at one time using the enclosed recipes. I made one batch and it just covered the bottom of the pot. The picture shows it filled almost to the top. Does one have to adjust cooking time, and by how much, when making larger batches?
Angelika T on Jul 23, 2014
Best Answer: Thank you! I admit to doubling the plum recipe in my eagerness to try and surprise - it turned out fine! I did have to go by feel and increase the pectin, also waited a good hour till it cooled down and then restarted the batch, iow I cooked it twice.

Does it make preserves without pectin?

Preserves & marmalade don't contain pectin but need to cook longer. Can I adjust cook time manually? If so, what setting should I choose, ""Jam"" or ""Jelly""
knittingfever on May 15, 2014
Best Answer: Just hand squeeze the fruit to larger pieces and add half the pectin. It will be soother and will have more liquidity. You can keep it on the same time, but also cover in 10 min instead of 30 min. Have fun

I am very concerned about the teflon coating getting too hot when it comes to the boiling point. How high does the temperature get and is it possible to overheat the teflon so it is hot enough to cause "teflon flu"?

marcia w on May 7, 2015
Best Answer: Yes, it is electric. The process is simple to prepare jams and jellies. Instruction book with recipes is included in the packaging. I just made strawberry port jelly this week. This appliance is suitable for small amounts canning - nothing more than 6 half-pints at a time.

do you have to use only Ball recipes?
Linda K on Jun 22, 2015
Best Answer: No! I used recipes from a box of natural pectin I bought and they came out just fine. As long as you are using the right ratios of ingredients, it's just a vessel to cook it in.

How its works? it is by eletrcity ?
marcia w on May 7, 2015
Best Answer: The Ball Fresh Tech Automatic Jam and Jelly maker works great for making small batches of jam or jelly. It does use electricity to run the maker. It comes with a recipe book to make your jams or jelly and really is easy to use. Add ingredients, pectin and sugar and 20-25 minutes later you are done. You can then store in your refrigerator or process with a water bath canner for longer shelf life.

Do you still have to process the jam/jelly after adding to jars? Do jars have to be hot when jam/jelly is put in them?
Janet Schmidt on May 31, 2015
Best Answer: I do not process the jam/ jelly any further after adding it to the jar. The jars do need to be heated before putting the product in them or the glass will break from the temperature contrast. I place the jars in hot water in the sink and when the timer goes off I place them on a towel upside down before I rmobe the stirring mechanism and flip them over to fill. I have not had any issues with this technique. I love this machine - I only use the reduced sugar recipe.
