Good Torch
Been using for awhile now. Lights every time, solid, easy to refill, detachable base, great flame control, and looks good

"Does the job, does it well"
This is a solid product, producing a very consistent and hot flame. The igniter works the first time almost every time, and the flame adjustment is precise.

One possible complaint about this product could be the switches, which are somewhat loose and plasticy-feeling, but this doesn't really affect the torch's functionality

Fun kitchen tool
This torch is perfect for caramelizing sugar on creme brulee and for toasting marshmallows on s'mores pie. It has worked great for many years although I don't use it every day. I bought one for my mom for Christmas and she loves it too.

First Torch
This is the first torch I have owned -- so I cannot compare it. However, it was EXTREMELY easy to fill and use. Worked like a charm - I am very happy with my purchase

Why did you choose this?
Sur La Table Store
I make crème brûlées quite often, and the last torch I bought was half the price and has stopped working after a couple of years. This one had very good reviews, so starting a new year with it!

how do I open this product up to put in the butane bottle

i purchased the messermeister chef's torch sometime ago and just decided to use it.

Best Answer: Trigger-start aluminum torch for perfect crème brûlée. Up to 2700°F. 200 minutes use per 9-oz. butane canister (not included). You do not need to open any part of this product in order to fill the butane. There should be a small nozzle on the top of the butane bottle and point of entrance for that nozzle on the bottom of your chef's torch. Instert that nozzle into the bottom of the torch and push. This will release the butane from its canister and load it into your chefs torch.

WHERE DO I BUY BUTANE TORCH?
A shopper on Jan 22, 2015
Best Answer: I returned my Messermeister Chef's Torch as It was most difficult to fill. In fact, I never did suceed in filling it. And the clerk at the Sur La Table couldn't fill it either.

Is this strong enough to sear meats that have been cooked in a sous vide? Does it cause as much smoke as using a fry pan?
barbara o on Nov 23, 2014
Best Answer: Yes, this torch can be used for browning meats. It would cause less smoke than searing in a skillet.

Can you use an 8 oz butane canister?
Jane S on Sep 28, 2015
Best Answer: I purchased (in store at Sur La Table) a 6oz "Max Burton premium butane fuel for refilling small butane devices". Haven't tried any others.
