Let me start by saying I am a Wusthof fan(i've got 5 others and some nice Shuns).
I ordered this knife because I thought it was a good deal, but the item i received had two flaws. I was not paying to send it back and have no actual store nearby so I am stuck dealing with the issues.
Right out of the package i noticed that the blade towards the handle end had some extra metal sticking out. It was irritating because when you placed the blade on a cutting board there was now an area that the blade would not cut the whole way through. I ended up using a water stone to remove this extra bit of metal and fixed that portion. Once i began using the knife again, i now have an issue with the front edge of the knife. It was ground flat and the nose of the knife does not taper upwards like it should. Every time i use this knife it tears my cutting board to shreds. I know the metal is good, but to be honest these mistakes are a pretty big deal.
I should not have to make two huge adjustments to a brand new blade to make it usable
Wsthof creates great products. This knife is perfect for slicing fruits, vegetables, meats, herbs, and cheeses. It is sharp and glides through foods. The free cutting board was an added bonus. I ended up purchasing two sets because the deal was too good to pass up. Always remember to only hand wash both the knife and board
I was in the store two weeks ago about ready to buy the 7" Santoku knife when I saw the great sale price on the 5" knife with the cutting board and thought I'd give it a try instead. I'm so glad I saw this. The knife is the perfect size for slicing up vegetables and does a wonderful job. I thought I would hardly get any use out of the cutting board but it's just the right size for cutting up an oinion or chopping garlic. Great sale price and a wonderful deal. I highly recommend the knife and the cutting board is nice too.
This is my go-to knife for chopping... and it is SUCH a deal. The fact that it comes with a good quality cutting board is a huge bonus. The knife fits perfectly in my hands and is great for all the chopping I do for my week night salads and stir frys :)
This knife is AMAZING. I'm short and small, so a 5in santoku is the perfect size for me! I love wusthof classic, and this knife is exactly what I need. I also can't believe the price! $50 for a great forged knife AND cutting board?!! SUCH A GOOD PRICE!
I have been using only Wustof knives for over 20 years. They are simply the best design for me. I have tried other knives in the store and they were not comfortable for my hands.
I loved this little set so much that I purchased more for Christmas gifts. Everyone who received them was thrilled, and they also said it was now their "go to" knife. All of the recipients are excellent cooks, who are also very fussy about their knives.
I may just have to get another one for myself so I can have two. Wustof Classic is the best
I have read that Wusthof from Germany is an excellent brand and have one of their bread knives that is amazing. I am currently replacing my high-end Chicago Cutlery set and thought I would replace it piece by piece since Wusthof is more expensive. My Chicago Cutlery set included two sizes of Santoku knives, which I use the most and love. So excited to try this one, and so excited about the price!
Why does this have a 'lifetime limited warranty' while the other knives from Wusthof have a 'lifetime warranty' ? What is the difference ?

Best Answer:My assumption is that the knife has a lifetime warranty but the board has restrictions in case you put it in the dishwasher or leave it soaking. We have had no issues with the knife and construction appears to b the same as our other Wusthof classics.
Best Answer:No it does not have a cover but I keep it in my knife drawer which has slots for the knives. This is my absolute favorite knife so I would still recommend it even without a cover. I have many others of this same Wusthof series (classic) and love them all but this 5 inch Santoku is my first choice for many tasks. One of my friends used it at my house and loved it too so I sent her one for her birthday!
Doesn't come with a knife guard or cover, we just put it into our knife block with other knives. It's a good knife to have, fills the need for something bigger than a paring knife but not as bulky as a chef's knife.
Best Answer:I'm not left-handed, but it would appear to be a knife that one could use with either hand. That being said, I would highly recommend this knife. I have an extensive collection of Wusthof Clssic knives and use the knife daily.
I never thought about it as I am a righty. I can tell you that the knife is identical on both sides so I don't see why it would matter. I love this knife and am considering the next size up as my next purchase.
