Take the guesswork out of grilling perfect steaks with these innovative thermometers. To use, simply activate the thermometer by placing it in the cradle, insert sideways into the steak, and flip and rotate as usual. A slow flash indicates that the steak is close to reaching the desired temperature, while a fast, double flash lets you know when it’s time to remove the steak from the grill. The double flash continues until the steak has rested for the appropriate amount of time. Remove from the meat with the activator, slice and enjoy. Thermometers are available in Rare (120°F), Medium Rare (130°F), Medium (140°F) and Medium Well (150°F).
Material: Stainless steel, plastic
Care: Hand wash with hot water and mild dish soap. Do not immerse in water
I've tried a lot of meat thermometers over the years to varying degrees of success. They all had two things in common:
1) They measured the temperature at a specific spot within the meat. I had to be sure I put it in correctly to get the best results I could.
2) They didn't consider resting time and carryover cooking.
I'm happy to say that the Steak Champ exceeds on both points. I really like that it measures the temperature over the length of the thermometer, so I get a better read on the entirety of the meat (all of which I'll be eating). I love, love, love that it's specifically designed to continue measuring the temperature during the rest period. It's that rest measurement that truly ensures the steak ends up on the plate at the right degree of doneness, and that's huge!
It's a little expensive, but so is the steak so I'd rather spend a little more to ensure I don't ruin the meat. :-) All in all, this is definitely the best steak thermometer I've ever used. I look forward to more tasty steak this weekend
We purchased 2 SteakChamps with high hopes for successfully grilling medium rare steaks. We tried one of the two and the indicator light never came on. By the time my husband realized that the steaks were cooking too long, they were well past medium rare. We removed the thermometer, put it on a table and about five minutes later the light started to flash; too little, too late. Very expensive gadget with good promise but doesn't deliver
