Prized possession
I received this a few years ago as a birthday gift and it's one of the items I would take with me to a desert island. I make tea every morning and the right tea kettle is very important. I normally have to replace them every couple of years because some element always fails (Usually the whistle). My simplex is still going strong, even after a mishap where I forgot to replace the lid after I had filled it and set the heat on high; it sat on the stove and burned up until almost the whole kettle turned black and a strange hot smell was coming from the kitchen! I thought the kettle was ruined! But, my husband scoured it really well after it had cooled down and it still works and looks GREAT :) One of my fave things about this kettle other than it's durability & beauty is that the whistle is designed to get progressively louder (as long as the lid is in place!) so you are not subjected a a piercing wail when the water reaches the boiling point

Replacement for one I burned up while I had the stove on and the contractor had me outside answering questions! I love this teakettle and will miss terribly not having it for a week while I wait for the new one to arrive!

Sent as a gift to a favorite cousin to use on her Viking Gas range. Selected this particular tea kettle because it is handmade in England for over 100 years & is a quality kettle that is chrome over copper & has a copper coil at the base both of which aid in heating water 25% faster. Love the beautiful shinny finish. Also love that it has a wide mouth which makes it easy to fill & pour, as well as a wide base. Doesn't splash hot water when pouring & wood handle stays cool & ensures a solid grip.

Is this a chrome-plated copper kettle?

A few questions actually:Is this a copper kettle that is plated? Is the plating Chrome or Nickel? I have one that I bought in the UK in the 90s which is Nickel plated. Thanks for your help.--
A shopper on Dec 17, 2012
Best Answer: :My understanding is that the inside lining is tin and that after some time(one owner said ten years) it is necessary to retin the lining when it starts to peel away.

Can you guarantee me that this "Simplex Chrome Teakettle for Gas Appliances" is made in England? (as it says on your web site) Many users complain that the more recently made Simplex Teakettles are made in China and lack the quality of the older kettles made in England.
A shopper on Jan 2, 2015
Best Answer: I'm not seeing anything online saying that these are made in China. As far as I can tell, they have always been & still are made in England.

This looks like a great kettle. I am reading that people who have owned this kettle for many years find it very durable. Is the kettle that is being sold in 2014 of the same quality? I am wondering if it can ding or bend easily.
A shopper on Aug 21, 2014
Best Answer: Simplex has been making the same high quality kettles since the beginning. One from 2014 would have the same craftsmanship as one made years ago. It is highly resistant to damage.

I'm reading that nickel is not safe for cookware.
Miki on Jul 10, 2014
Best Answer: Here's some information from the Nickel Institute website:""Nickel-containing stainless steel cookware has a long history of safe and hygienic use in food contact applications. There is one possible concern however: a very small subgroup of nickel-sensitized people might experience flare-ups of nickel dermatitis after ingesting sufficient volumes of nickel in food and water."

How does this kettle pour?

Does it spurt or drip? The spout is very straight...and I've noticed that usually only the gooseneck pours without problems.
A shopper on Apr 10, 2013
Best Answer: The kettle does pour not spurt. The spout is long enough so the water doesn’t sputter coming out.
