Very impressed with the new Breville Sous Chef.
As a chef, I demand good tools and equipment. I've been wanting a new food processor with greater capacity and power for some time. After trying out another brand unsuccessfully (and returning it), I saw this new model in the SLT catalog and was excited. So far, I'm really impressed with the Breville Sous Chef. Love the big capacity and the powerful motor. Grated giant hunks of Parmesan cheese in a few seconds, pureed marinara in a few pulses, thinly sliced pounds of mushroom so fast. Smart design on the accessories. Really wide feed tube holds a lot of ingredient. Have used the shredding blade, adjustable slicing blade, steel knife. Neat design on the slicing blade with 24 settings on just one blade. The steel knife (s blade) is razor sharp. Nice having measurements on the outside of the workbowl. So far, so good! Looking forward to trying out new capabilities I don't have with my old model (now relegated to a back cupboard). There's a lot to love about this food processor.

Nice job Breville. Very well thought out and designed

This is the BEST food processor I have ever used!
The Breville Sous Chef is the best food processor I have ever used. I have had it for a month and have used it every day with great success. Not only is the design gorgeous, but the functionality has been well thought out and tested. It has a powerful motor, large capacity bowl with measurements, excellent pulse feature and amazing timer function.

But what sets this machine apart is the extra wide feeding chute, the small and large pushers, the adjustable slicing blade with 24 settings, and the emulsifying disc. All of these features give you great control, making this machine extremely versatile.

I make a lot of raw vegan food, and I have been giving this machine a work out! It is fantastic for uniformly grinding and chopping fresh herbs, raw nuts and seeds and dried fruit. This machine makes great fresh nut and seed butters, dips and spreads. But the real test was the thick sticky stuff like raw balls, raw crusts, and raw cookies. Amazing! I also made conventional gluten free cakes and cookies with tremendous results too. I made some gluten free breads with the dough kneader and it worked out a treat!

But the adjustable slicing disc has become my new best friend. You can slice super thin pieces up to thick cuts. I couldnt believe how well the slicing and shredding disc sliced tomatoes! It also makes really uniform shredded pieces for salads. The julienne disc offers incredible control over sizing - you can make really long pieces by laying the vegetables horizontally in the wide feeding chute! The emulsifying disc is really amazing too. I have made delicious mayonnaise, fresh fruit sorbet, and ice cream.

I cannot rave enough about this machine. It is absolutely fantastic

I think my Sous Chef is outstanding
This food processor does the work so I can play. I have made sweet potato fries with this processor and they came out great. I had other food processors that I returned because they could not handle the task of cutting sweet potato french fries. The Breville processor cuts them like they are butter with its 1200 watt motor and razor sharp blades.

The discs that come with this food processor are all I could ask for. I love the fact that the slicing blade can adjust from practically paper thin thin to about a 1/2 inch. The slicing blade cuts foods evenly. The french fry blade cuts them so they are all the same thickness. I also have used the french fry blade to to dice onions perfectly. The S blade chops great.

The mouth of the food processor is big enough to fit whole fruits and vegetables into it.

An engineer that also cooks was visiting and looked at the design of the machine and its accessories was very impressed with its quality.

I love the fact that bowl has a 12 cup liquid capacity. The design is well thought out. I have not used the small bowl yet.

The fact that their is a case to hold all of the accessories is a bonus. It is more likely to be used often if everything is in one place and easy to access. Everything is clearly labeled so you know what is used for.

The quality appears excellent and I expect to be using this on almost a daily basis for years to come. The replacement warranty is 1 year. However, the motor warranty is 25 years.

The initial cost is not cheap. But when you figure anything you could possibly need is included in the purchase price it is a reasonable price for the product. Other food processor companies get you with the additional cost of the accessories which are very pricey. I would highly recommend the Breville Sous Chef food processor over other processors.

I have had the pleasure to deal with Sur La Tables' customer service and they are a great store to work with. Sur La Table is like a candy shop to me

Durable high quality assistant in the kitchen
I have been in the food service industry for over 25 years. In my restaurant as well as others in which I have worked I have had the opportunity to use some serious kitchen equipment. The Breville Sous Chef is one of them. When cooking at home I want to have fun, no suffering allowed... consequently my equipment has to be able to ""work"", and work it does. I absolutly love the high power, solid induction motor. I like simple, on/off, start, pulse. No shimmy shaking or bouncing around. Maybe its a guy thing, but 1200 watts and a 25 year induction motor warranty is near unheard of. I have had the Sous Chef for nearly a year now, and as you probably can imagine, I put this machine through its paces on a regular basis... It is working as well as the day I got it. The high capacity, sealed bowl does not leak; the wide mouth processing chute makes food prep a breeze; the well designed accessory case makes it easy to stay organized. Of course everything is not perfect. The small bowl blade came apart while processing spices... I called Breville USA and they had the replacement to me in record time... Ok so perfect anyway. Its great to have the best assistant around helping you in the kitchen

Most Powerful Processor for Home Use
Have been looking for a food processor as good or better than my old one and 1200 watts (old one had 900) certainly got my attention. All those watts mean a lot and no other processor for home use on the market even comes close All the other features are incredible and am lovin' it every day.

Kicks it!
Super powerful, looks great, and has a wide feed tube. Best of all is the disc caddy, which holds and organizes all the great stuff that comes with this food processor. Even if this wasn't an amazing appliance, which it is, the caddy clinches the deal

Who ever heard of a food processor that cannot grate cheese?

I don't understand how this processor is different: why is there a problem with grating cheese? And why has this (apparently) not fully been addressed? This is one of the reasons I particularly like having a food processor; it makes grating a large amount of cheese so much faster. For $400, I would expect it to get the cheese out of the fridge for me AND grate it! I've had this processor on my wish list for some time, but never noticed the cheese grating problem until reading the Q&A just now. I'd love to hear a comprehensive answer from the manufacturer. I'm definitely rethinking my options..
A shopper on Aug 5, 2013
Best Answer: It DOES & CAN grate cheese! One model (the older one) will not, the newer one does an AWESOME, & FAST job with cheese!!! You just need to MAKE SURE you get the right model - the company re-made the disc and lid specifically for the cheese issue. I dealt with this for 3 months!! But, SO GLAD I hung in there!!!!! WORTH THE WAIT! The new disc has a little extra rim on the outside and is thicker,... Breville company is more than happy to mail one out to you for free if you get the other model,.. then you will have an extra disc and lid,.. nice! Just call the # in the user's manual. The other disc does everything excellently, just not cheese. I was told it ""rocked"", hence the thicker disc with extra rim to prevent rocking

I currently use a Cuisinart Mini-prep and it makes onions & green peppers watery. Will the Breville Sous Chef do the same?
A shopper on Dec 1, 2011
Best Answer: If you haven't washed your onion and peppers before processing - meaning they aren't dripping wet - and you don't add salt, your buzzed veggies should not come out watery

is this unit able to grate cheese? the instruction manual states this unit is not for grating cheese
A shopper on Oct 11, 2012
Best Answer: According to a consumer reports article dated Nov 29, 2012 ...the company has since solved the problem by redesigning the processor's shredding disk and lid for the newly minted Breville Sous Chef BFP800XL/A. The manual for the new model, which Breville says should be in stores in January, removes the cheese disclaimer. The company is also offering owners of the earlier version a new shredding disk and lid. To get one, call 866-273-8455 and Breville will send it to you at no charge..."
