I bought one for myself several years ago, and have been giving them as gifts ever since. Every recipient has told me how much they enjoy using it, even though they didn't think they needed it initially. Once you use it, you'll wonder how you ever got along without it before
Hunny has found this Absolutely Necessary. Since,I boil eggs too long and they get ""green"" inside a ""help"" was sought out.As usual,Sur La Table was where to search. Best priced and better yet? Works to Perfection Every Time! Not many items We can say that about these days. Thank You
Takes the guesswork out of egg boiling or coddling for perfect results every time. Bring your eggs to a boil, turn off heat immediately and remove as soon as your egg timer registers your desired degree on doneness. Guaranteed success!
This is the best egg timer ever. After a couple of uses, you know exactly when your eggs are done perfectly. I make soft boiled and medium boiled eggs just the way my family likes them. One suggestion is to set a timer anyway, so you don't forget to check your eggs.
Best Answer:I don't have the package information about the manufacturer. The plastic smell does not persist after the first time in boiling water. I have bought new ones when they finally crack after much use. I always boil them without the eggs to get rid of the "new plastic" smell. I like them so much, I put up with the inconvenience and/or the possibility that plastic residue may be present without the odor. I reason that the egg shell would pick up any plastic that may be sloughed off in the water.
The product doesn't say (and I don't have the packaging anymore), but it appears to be made of a thick hard rubber or plastic material. I have never noticed the water smelling. I love this product! The timer is very accurate and visual so it's easy to read how hard or soft the yolk is inside.
Burton Plastics. I am not sure what type of plastic (it is a hard plastic); there might be a slight bit of smell, but, as the eggs are in their shells, it doesn't affect the taste of the eggs. I use mine every time I make soft-boiled eggs, it works well.
Good morning. In regards to your question about this timer working in a steamer, I don't know I haven't cooked my eggs that way. But it certainly has motivated me to try steaming them, sounds good. Sorry I wasn't much help- D.R.P.
