THE GREATEST PEELER EVER!!!!
This peeler is soooo much more comfortable than the one your mother still uses. It allows for a much faster and smoother peel without friction or discomfort. However, the very best thing about them is how cheap they are. So, if they become dull just toss them and replace them. What more can one as for from a kitchen product

Great For Wider Vegetables and Fruits.
We enjoy Aubergines and Butternut Squash.A bear for peeling either one.The shorter length we have just does not have the literal ""Edge"" of Kukn Rikon. {Yes,these are Swiss made as well}. This is a Sharp Peeler. So,do not give to Little Ones without supervision. As for ""throwing away"" as a Reviewer stated, there are ""sharpeners"" that will keep the ""edge"" nice and sharp for Years to come

My favorite peeler
Love these peelers. They are lightweight, blades are sharp, and easy on the hands. I picked up a couple on sale to have on. Would be a great housewarming gift

Does the job
This little peeler really does the job of more expensive ones. However, I've run into a rust problem too. I'll work to remove it and be more careful next time.

Bait and switch
This has been my go-to peeler for several years. When the last one broke (blade separated from plastic housing--that should have been a warning) I ordered three because I love it so much.

In less than a month the first blade has gotten so dull as to be useless. I suspect they had a best seller and are now substituing lesser materials. So sad.

poor choice of blade
the blade on this peeler rusts. You have to make sure that it is completely dry after you wash it, or it will rust. They should use a better material for the blade, something that does not rust. I probably would not buy this again for this reason.

Carbon Steel = Rust
I loved this peeler....until it rusted. This peeler is too high maintenance for me so we will have to find another option. It's too bad because it's such a smooth peeler. I will attempt to remove the rust but I don't expect to keep it if that is the maintenance required.

Purchased these peelers before and they are the BEST peelers and oh so reasonably priced. More expensive peelers are difficult and drag across the fruit or vegetable being peeled. Best little gadget I have found!

This peeler looks to be the closest to a potato peeler my mother always had and I loved it......I still have it but it is so old and getting rusty that I fear it will fall apart. This particular peeler has an excellent rating and I look forward to using it.

I use peelers constantly and always need more, and since students like this, I thought it might make up in function what it lacks in form, and the white one matches the SLT slicer-dicer I just bought.

I need a peeler strong enough to peel spaghetti , butter nut and other type of hard shell squashes. Would this one do? or is there a better one ?
Genevieve E on Sep 15, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Peelers are designed for specific tasks. The small Kuhn-Rikon peelers are designed for, and perform well on, small thin-skinned fruits and vegetables such as tomatoes, potatoes, and zucchini. I urge Genevieve to shop for a peeler specifically described as a "Squash Peeler" to peel large hard-shelled dense-fiber fruits. Squash peelers are sturdy and have sharp heavy-duty blades that stand up to thick skins. And, incidentally, shop for peelers with stainless steel blades. Blades made of other materials tend to snap, corrode, or rust. Also an assortment of sharp, sturdy chef's knives can usually do a good job of peeling and slicing squash.
Can you get rid of the rust on the blade?
A shopper on Jan 28, 2015
BEST ANSWER: My peelers haven't rusted, but then I dry them with a clean kitchen towel as soon as I wash them. And I never soak them. In my experience, rust, unless it has penetrated deep into a blade, is fairly easy to get rid of. I would rub the blade with a pad of fine steel wool, and then hand wash and hand dry the peeler. In my experience, sharp blades require TLC to retain their edges.
sharpening Kuhn Rikon Original Swiss Peeler

A reviewer claimed that it is possible to sharpen this product. How?
A shopper on Jul 14, 2012
BEST ANSWER: There are many different methods out there for sharpening your vegetable peelers. The most common one I have found is using a paring knife. You can also use a sharpening stone or file. Below are a couple of links to videos on how to sharpen your vegetable peeler that I found to be very helpful.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fmyaIEEXrlMhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GL0gN5IgK8s&feature=relate
