This is my first Epicurean board. Used it in the store when testing out knives and really liked the surface feel. Having an average/smaller kitchen with limited counter space, was worried the larger board would be inconvenient - actually it makes prep work easier since everything stays on the board. Couldn't be happier, large work space is WONDERFUL! Sales person recommended the natural board, no color loss. Didn't already have a carving board so the grooved side worked perfectly for the Christmas prime rib and later in the week pot roast. Made pasta sauce, great for peeling and chopping tomatoes, garlic and basil or whatever - had enough room to leave peelings on the board then just scoop and dump. Can't wait to use flat surface for rolling pastry dough. Will not dishwasher, would rather hand wash and keep it looking nice. p.s. So thin and light, takes up so little space in the board cupboard! Will be buying smaller board for slicing bread and single fruits
I thought this would be the perfect product. I wanted something I could carve on, but not worry about cracking, like my previous solid wood carving boards.
This looked great when I received it, and I did a quick wash before I went to store it away, and thats when I smelled the formaldehyde odor. It brought me right back to high school and dissecting frogs. There is no way I am going to put hot meats on this thing, carve them and then eat it.
I checked on the web and it says the smell will go away with multiple washes...but still, how can this be good? Back it went.
I bought a solid wood board, and will try to take care of it so it doesn't crack
Although we have a half of a dozen other Epicurean non slip cutting boards in various sizes, my husband had to have this one to add to his collection. He loved the groove for catching the juices when cutting meats. Although the design lived up to expectations the material did not. It seemed much lighter then the other Epicurean cutting boards and upon first washing ( by hand ) the board was warped the next morning. We will have to make a trip to take it back. :
"Happy with mine, and Surprised by the bad reviews"
I was so happy to find a dishwasher safe cutting board with a well to catch the juices. It is our favorite cutting board in the house because it can handle a lot, isn't too heavy, and can go in the dishwasher. I hope to build a collection so I always have a stack on hand. Epicurian rocks. If you cook a LOT, have a hard time cleaning as you go, this is a must in your kitchen
This is my first Epicurean cutting board. I bought the large one with a groove to catch liquid. It is sturdy and not too heavy. I think that I may be able to knead dough on it as well. The only drawback is that I could see knife marks on my board although it was supposed to be nonporous. I wonder if these knife marks will give room for bacteria to grow.
I decided to try the epicurean board because it was able to be placed in the dishwasher. My traditional wood boards were looking gray on the undersides and were constant reminders that bacteria can lurk on wood. I have found that I now use this board the most. It catches drips, stores nicely and seems easy on the knives as promised. I gave 4 stars because of the price. I think it is on the expensive side for a product frankly not as gorgeous as a block of real wood.
