I am on my second of these cutting boards, as I had to return the first one because it warped, had lots of cuts in the surface from use, and ended up getting moldy. My second one seems to be headed in the same direction - it no longer lies flat on my counter, so it is hard to keep it steady when chopping. It's also got lots of cuts in the surface (even though the store employees mentioned that they had never seen such a thing with this cutting board), and I'm about to go buy another type to replace it.
The design looks nice (until you start using it), and I love the fact that you can throw this in the dishwasher (unlike bamboo), but it's not worth buying a new one every two months or so..
I took a knife skills class at Sur la Table in Northern VA, and the chef recommended this board to the class. (It's also the board they use in all of their cooking classes...which means they get used hundreds of times per month, and put through their commercial dishwasher every day.)
I've had my cutting board for about six months. I use it daily, sometimes multiple times, and it is in fantastic shape.
I do put it through the dishwasher daily, and I also hand scrub it between uses. The board only has a few knife marks, hasn't warped at all, and looks practically knew.
I do use both sides of the board, and alternate with each use. I'm not sure if that's made a difference in the wear (or lack of).
This board has exceeded my expectations, and I like that it's more gentle on my knife than a plastic cutting board would be
To begin with, it smells atrocious when it arrives. Unfortunately we gave this as gifts to people this year. With a few cleanings the horrible chemical smell goes away. Secondly, Epicurean places a huge sticker on the board which leaves a blanched rectangular spot that looks bad. We have cleaned our board multiple times and cannot get the big blanched out rectangle to go away. I called Epicurean's Customer Service almost two weeks ago - left a message as instructed - and still no response. We spent $50 a board to give these inferior products as gifts this year. And because they were gifts we cannot go back and tell everyone we will take the board back and try and get replacements from Sur La Table. Sur La Table and Epicurean - this could not have been the first time you have heard this - shame on you
I bought this as a Christmas gift for my husband this year, and like it a lot. We have several of the smaller boards by Epicurean which do not have the non-slip corners, and they slide around a lot, so I thought this would be a good upgrade.
The board performs well, the non-slip corners make it stay where it should, and it's easy to wash and use.
But I was dismayed as some other reviewers were by the sticker that the board came with.
When removed it left behind ghosting of the lettering on the sticker itself, which took quite some time and scrubbing to remove.
Clearly Epicurean needs to change the adhesive and/or the sticker itself on this product.
We now have all three sizes and love the look of these. The non slip edges makes them so easy to work with. The one we had the longest is showing knife marks on the surface of it now though. Because of the rubber edges I do not put in the dishwasher. I simply wash in sink with hot soap and water and occasionally wipe with a paper towel with some bleach on it. Not had any problems
Have one and really love the features-- light weight, dishwasher safe safe. I bought one after a cooking class.. Have read the reviews and feel any cutting board is going to show knife marks. Love that I can pop it in the dishwasher--I put it only in the top basket.
I purchased this board as a gift for my grandma. Last year I got her a Sur La Table cooking class gift card, and she loved the class and has since raved and raved about the cutting boards used. Thank you to the kind staff for pointing me to this one as the one used in SLT's classes - she will love it and be so surprised!!
