Work perfectly in the microwave
Despite the previous review, these bowls are perfectly safe and appropriate for microwave use. The prior reviewer is apparently unable to distinguish between the bowl reacting to microwave energy and heat transfer by conduction from the contents of the bowl. They're glass, and glass conducts heat from hot contents. Yes, you will have to use potholders or mitts just as you would with anything but an insulating material

"Great Product, Substantial"
These bowls are a must for any cook. They are my favorite prep bowls and liked them so much, I even purchased a second set. They are tough, nest for storage and I can toss them in the dishwasher. Don't let the fact that they are glass fool you, these are thick and strong. I can't suggest these enough

The only way these could be better: More bowls
We got a set of these bowls because my wife thought they'd be useful. I was a little skeptical I try to be a kitchen minimalist, and figured our cereal bowls worked OK. Why go for a whole set?

She was right, I was wrong. These have been incredibly useful. I probably use them while preparing 2/3 of the meals we make at home.

They've held stir-fry vegetables before cooking, spices before adding to a dish, baking ingredients, eggs (beaten and unbeaten), and more.

We've even used the larger bowls as serving pieces.

There's just one thing that could make these better: More bowls, especially some of the smaller sizes. But the good news is you can buy them individually

My go-to bowls for everything
I am SO glad that I bought this set. No more mismatched plastic and silicone bowls. They are so versatile -- mixing, prepping, serving, & baking. I even use the large one to hold bread dough while waiting for it to rise, or inverting it to temporarily cover pasta dough while I work with my pasta maker. When I don't feel like digging for my trifle bowl, I've also used the larger bowls for layered dips, desserts & salads. Durable against my electric hand mixer, wire whisks, and clunking around when stacking back into my cupboard -- no chips or cracks to date. Clean up is a breeze, whether by hand or in the dishwasher. Grab yourself a set; you won't be disappointed

Throw your hat over the fence!
I credit these bowls, and my initial set of All-Clad cookware for getting me started as a cook. These are a fantastic value, incredibly useful for mise en place / prep work, mixing, dough-rising, storing leftovers, serving as a fruit bowl, and they're even attractive enough for serving. Best of all, if you hate to stop to wash a bowl so you can use it for something else, this set offers so many similar sizes, that you can just pick another bowl, and keep cooking without missing a beat!

Strong recommend, whether as a treat for yourself, or a gift for someone just starting out

My favorite bowls!
I had put this set of bowls on my Christmas list, and was very excited to receive them from my in-laws! Both my husband and I use them every day from mixing dough to storing leftovers. The smaller sizes are perfect for organizing ingredients. We love them so much that we are planning on buying another set

"Multipurpose, Durable, Excellent!"
I love these mixing bowls. They are made to last and are useful for so many things, even measuring out ingredients as each bowl corresponds to a different measurement. Functional, simple - I use them all the time. Def a needed staple of every kitchen

I Don't Know Why
it took me so long to order these. Guess I never noticed them before. Every kitchen should have at least one set. Two would be even better.

I use these mostly for mise en place and melting small amounts in the microwave. They're just so handy! I'm keep coming up with new uses for them all the time.

Get rid of all those mismatched plastic dollar store bowls right now. Order these. You need them. You'll never know how much until you get them

Classic durable bowls
I love these bowls. They let you see what you're mixing and they are super durable.

25 years and still perfect
I bought these bowls approximately 25 years ago, use at least one of them almost every day, and they are still in excellent condition. I paid much more than this back then, but they were worth every penny. I absolutely love them. I'm always worried that I may accidentally break one, and am happy to see they are still available.

i bought similar prep bowls made by anchor and while they are handy for mise en place, they are very cheaply made and 3 bowls chipped within the first week of use. i've had my eyes on these by duralex for some time and pulled the trigger on 2 sets because they are on sale.

Can you use in the oven?
A shopper on Dec 6, 2014
BEST ANSWER: you can use them in the microwave and i'm sure you could use them in the oven since they're tempered glass, like pyrex, BUT i wouldn't bake with them since they have slanted sides and food wouldn't cook evenly.
Can you use for a Bain Marie

Rather than use a double boiler I use bowls for making such things as pastry creme and hollandaise sauce. Will these bowls work?
Dorine on Jul 16, 2014
BEST ANSWER: It's not recommended that you use glass bowls for a Bain Marie.
Can these be used in a convection oven?
A shopper on Dec 27, 2015
BEST ANSWER: No, they can't.
Are these glass bowls?
A shopper on Sep 25, 2014
BEST ANSWER: Yes, they are like the American pyrex glass. They are very sturdy and have a little weight to them.
Are these Duralex bowls oven proof like Pyres bowls are?
Patty M on Aug 3, 2015
BEST ANSWER: I have only used these bowls in the microwave and love the fact I can put them in the dishwasher. These are my "go to" everyday bowls! They are also freezer safe but I have not utilized the bowls in the freezer.
Can I use an electric mixer in these bowl?
Kim H on Jan 10, 2015
BEST ANSWER: i'm assuming since they're are shatterproof that they would be fine for using with a hand electric mixer. they are similar to our Pyrex.
What is the total weight of just all of the bowls stacked together?
A shopper on Nov 25, 2013
BEST ANSWER: Stacked together, these bowls weigh about 11 lbs
Can you youse these bowls to create a double boiler?
Veronique D on Dec 25, 2015
BEST ANSWER: I tried one of them as the top half of a double boiler over a saucepan - but it took nearly 30 min to reach 180 degrees F; and an hour to cool down to 110 degrees, due to the insulating properties of the thick glass. I bought a metal double boiler top that works much more quickly..
What is the diameter of the largest bowl? The height of the stack? I wonder if they will fit in my shallow cupboard?
A shopper on Feb 8, 2015
BEST ANSWER: the largest bowl is 10 inches across and 4 inches high
