Bodum has reinvented the drip coffee system. The stylish new Bistro model comes with a removable water tank, a powerful 1500-watt spiral heating element that brings water close to a boil and keeps it there while transporting it through a glass pipe over to the water filter.

There the water gets distributed evenly over the ground coffee through an easy-to-clean showerhead. The showerhead is made of plastic with an inside coating of silicone. The silicone features a polished smoothness all through the shower holes to keep chalk deposits at their minimum and the hot water where it belongs—flowing unobstructed onto the ground beans to brew excellent coffee.

The tubes inside the machine are made from borosilicate glass and come with silicone gaskets, so no heat gets lost when the water runs through the machine. The finely meshed titanium-plated stainless steel filter keeps the coffee pure in taste, no paper filter needed. The coffee drips into a plastic thermos with a double-wall stainless steel interior to stay warm without a heating element needed. The thermos comes with a spout that keeps the heat where it belongs, and opens with an easy press of the finger. 8¾" x 12¼" x 15¾". 120 volts. 40 oz. Hand wash.

"Hot, tasty coffee!"
I've only had the machine for two months -- so far, it's been the best coffee machine I've owned. I was in need of a new drip machine and looking at other machines with the Specialty Coffee Association blessing. I chose the Bodum because it promised the correct brewing temperatures and, it simply looks better than the 60's looking Technivorms. Most important, it delivers hot, delicious coffee within a few minutes. It took a few trials to get the grind size and amount dialed in for my tastes but once done, it's been delivering consistently great coffee, daily. Longevity is always a question, so we'll see how it's doing after a year of daily use. And, yes, it looks wonderful alongside other contemporary appliances

not worth half the price..here's why
when i first went to purchase i was told the store manager stopped selling them because of issues not up to surlatable standards.good enough for me. then it showed up and i figured things were good.we were so excited with the bodum at first. simple operation, looked great, caraffe stayed hot, excellent cup of coffee......then it started leaking out of the filter, and now at the end of each brew right before it stops it will pop with steam and now it will pop the lid off each time to the point it will no longer snap closed. also under that lid it was compacting with grinds. 250 bucks? no way jose. taking it back and trying the technivorm

Do Not Purchase!!
My beautiful Bodum coffee maker lasted six months. I have been waiting all day for Bodum to return my phone call. Since I purchased the machine at Sur La Table online, I thought I might warn future purchasers of this product to refrain from buying. I have loved the machine to date-great design and great coffee. Today the unit failed to operate. I have been diligent in maintaing the unit, too. Seems like it should last more than 6 months. I don't mind paying for quality when I receive it. So disappointed in Bodum's lack of concern so I felt Sur La Table's customers should be forewarned! I don't have much hope of a resolution from anyone but I would love to be surprised

Word to the wise
I purchased the Bodum on 8/26/12 and it died today (2/14/13). From what I can tell, the water pump is the culprit.

I really like the simplistic design but at $249.99 for 6 months use this coffee maker isn't what I would call a good deal! A quick web search reveals that others have had similar results

Disappointed :-(
I love Bodum products. I have several of them and have been very happy with the quality and design. I love the looks of this coffee maker and when it works, the coffee is great.

I am sorry to say this this is not up to the Bodum standards I am used to. I've had the unit for a month and am seeing the same issues other report. There seems to be some trouble with the water pump or sensor that prevents the unit from turning on even when properly filled and loaded.

I bought the green one and it is already showing coffee stains. Just be aware that the light colored items will stain.

I've asked for a new unit from Sur la Table. I hope this one will be better

this product has great potential
I was very excited about this new coffee maker and my wife and I received it for our wedding just recently. Upon use, however, we find this coffee maker is quite specific about the grind of coffee used and/or the amount.

By this I mean that 90% of the time when we make 2/3 of a pot of coffee, the filter overflows sending grinds over the edge and up into the water showerhead. After mulitple emails and phone calls to Bodum, we still have not gotten an answer from them regarding this issue. All I could gleam from the customer service representative was that the amount of coffee - standard amount of grinds for 8 cups of coffee out of our Breville Smart Grinder- was too much, and that we should be using a coarser grind - although we've even tried using the coarsest drip grind we have.

So if you like your coffee on the stronger side, or you want to brew a full pot, I would be wary of this product.

Might as well just get the Bodum French Press, those work great

Excellent!!!
I am a coffee lover. I am very picky about my coffee. So much so, that I consider myself somewhat of a coffee snob. I bring my coffee with me when I go places.

This is by far the best coffee maker I have ever owned. Previous coffee makers included Krups.

If you like your coffee extremely hot, this is the machine for you. My wife usually takes her coffee directly from the coffee maker to the microwave to increase the temp. Not with this machine. I usually fill my insulated travel mug and drive about a 20 minutes - a half hour before drinking. The coffee is still so hot I can only take small sips at a time.

The coffee stays piping hot for several hours in the insulated carafe and will not get over cooked on the burner like the glass carafe models, which sit on the burner to stay warm.

The coffee maker makes excellent tasting coffee in about six minutes. It is also fun to watch as the boiling water travels up the glass tube in the back.

We use only Gevalia or Starbucks coffee, which usually comes finely ground. The titanium plated stainless steel filter keeps all of the grounds in, but lets all of the flavor through.

If you are a coffee lover like me, I strongly recommend this coffee maker

Haven't Lasted For Me
I was excited about this coffee maker because it claimed to make better coffee and it did that. Unfortunately, my first one broke in about a year, and my warranty replacement broke in just a few months. I'm awaiting my third one in the mail. The machine is lightly used and well taken care of. Reviews here and on other sites indicate that this is not an isolated incident and more widespread than is acceptable. I would really prefer my money back, but I guess I just have to ride out this last replacement until it breaks and find another solution

Taste of Coffee is Excellent
We purchased this coffee maker for our executive staff. They love the taste of the coffee and how it remains in the pot for extended periods of time and is still hot and flavorful
