I really like this blender
I had tossed my Ninja blender while preparing for my whole kitchen remodel and wanted something to special while I endured the six-week inconvenience (just a microwave and fridge). I saw this blender online while reading a sports website and I was hooked. I then looked around for reviews and saw how easy this blender was to use.

I then drive to the Sur La Table store at Pentagon Row in Arlington, Virginia and was happy to see that the unit was on display. The SLT sales rep had never used one but I told her I was intrigued by the newer technology and streamlined look. Even the ability to clean it so easily.

I am very happy I made this purchase at the SLT store. Thank you, KitchenAid.

How does this compare to the Vitamix?
Merle B on Apr 10, 2015
Best Answer: We had a VItamix 5200 before purchasing the Torrent. The whole plunger thing gets old really fast. You can never just set a VItamix and walk away. Not to mention that it looks like it belongs in a restaurant kitchen, not your home kitchen. It was way too big for our countertop. The Torrent fits right under the cabinets perfectly, is handsome in appearance, has the flexibility to "set-and-forget" so you can focus on something else while the blender works away and cleans up FAR EASIER than the Vitamix ever did. The power level is nearly identical between our 5200 and the Torrent, too.

Is it safe to blend hot foods?
A shopper on May 10, 2015
Best Answer: Yes it is.

I have a vitamix and I would like to know is this as good or just more fun to run and use. Is easier to use?
Judith B on Apr 20, 2015
Best Answer: It's better than our 5200 was.

I know the plastic is BPA-free, but do you know specifically what type/brand of plastic it is?
Courtney C on May 5, 2015
Best Answer: I contacted KitchenAid in response to your question. They couldn't find that information through their own search and concluded that details on the plastic that is used on the Torrent Blender is probably proprietary

How easy is it to clean?
martha s on Apr 18, 2015
Best Answer: Extremely easy! Hand wash in sink or add a bit of dishwashing liquid & some water to blender jar, insert & turn on. Cleans everything perfectly in about 2 seconds.

How loud is this blender? Do you have a video with a loudness comparison to other blenders?
Susan S on Apr 1, 2015
Best Answer: Unless you've got a silencing chamber like you see at Starbucks, all blenders are going to make some noise. The Torrent is no exception. However, it's not the worst I've heard by far and it also really depends on what you're blending and at what speed the blender is running at. The type of surface it's sitting on makes a big difference too as certain types of material will amplify the noise the blender transfers into it.

Why is the magnetic drive better than conventional motor-driven blenders?
A shopper on Apr 10, 2015
Best Answer: The magnetic drive is more powerful, more energy efficient & easier to use than a motor drive blender.

The warranty information states that "if your Blender should fail within the first seven years of ownership, we will replace your Blender with an identical or comparable replacement. Your replacement unit will also be covered by our one year limited warranty."
If the blender fails in the 2nd year than my replacement unit only has 1 year warranty??
A shopper on Jun 15, 2015
Best Answer: The information I've posted is copied & pasted directly from this blender's manual as uploaded on the KitchenAid website. It's correct.

I use my Vitamix with tamper to make ice cream from frozen fruit (and a dash of milk). Can this blender make ice cream without a tamper?
Shelly S on Jun 6, 2015
Best Answer: No. It'll make smoothies & milkshakes, but it doesn't have a preset for frozen desserts.

What is the base made out of. Is it metal? Also what is the blender jar made of?
Judith B on Apr 20, 2015
Best Answer: It is die-cast metal. Quite heavy duty. It doesn't budge on our counter when blasting through full loads of ice or other heavy items.

The jar is BPA-free plastic.

has there been good success wit the kitaid mag drive unit?
A shopper on Jan 21, 2016
Best Answer: This has been quite delightful to use. I am still in the process of learning its functions. My primary use has been for blending fruits or vegetables for my healthy drinks! I prefer a non-watery smooth drink, as one's body needs the benefit of digestive activity to assure and maintain effective function. This has that option, as well as many others that I happily anticipate on my journey to continued delicious culinary pleasure. It is a wonderful bonus to be an American-made product!

Is it okay to blend nuts and fruit seeds (grape seeds)?
C W on Jan 5, 2016
Best Answer: I blend smoothies daily using walnuts or almonds, whole flaxseed, whole chia seeds. The nuts disappear and the seeds stay whole.
Love my new blender! Fast & stops itself when finished. Quiet too!

Can this blender turn cold veggies into blended hot soup like a vitamix? Has anyone tried to make soup in it without having to heat the veggies first?
Joan B on Jun 29, 2015
Best Answer: No. The ingredients must be hot first.

What do they mean by a magnetic drive, anyway? Any electric motor is a magnetic drive, does this somehow do away with the mechanical linkage to the motor?
A shopper on Jun 7, 2015
Best Answer: Magnetic Drive is used to lock the pitcher in place, allowing it to slide in & out of place like the carafe of a coffee maker, thus making your blender significantly more low profile than the average blender.
