This thing misses....a lot. If the cherries are too large, they aren't center and the plunger thing doesn't hit the pit properly so it just pokes a hole through the cherry. My sister-in-law bought a $25 pitter that works better than this one, but the pit container is much smaller

Great Little Product!
I wondered when I bought this, if it was worth the money. And boy, is it ever. Once I got the hang of it, I can pit cherries at a great speed. Does the pitter miss? Very, very seldom. I wish I had this years ago. No more stained hands. No more picking cherry pits out of my mouth

12 kilo per hour
I thought the package was exaggerating when it claimed you could pit 12 kilos of cherries per hour. Heck that's 24 pounds. no way. Sure the thing works well, fastidiously well, cleanly pitting cherry after cherry. Easy to clean, easy to store, all that, but 12 kilos. That seemed outrageous so I just timed myself pitting 6 1/4 pounds, still being careful, and it took 13 minutes, and that included answering the phone and talking briefly. They aren't kidding.
there's a trick though to using this thing efficiently, that is getting a collection system that you don't have to fiddle much with. I use a glass lasagna pan which hold a lot of cherries. If you use a small container you have to keep emptying it. The other option I've used was a small 4 cup plastic container that I emptied into a freezer bag every few minutes. ... inefficient but the fruit was in the freezer sooner. Granted this thing isn't cheap and how many cherries does one need to pit? but it's fun to use and makes an easy task of what could be a tedious chore, at least if you are stoning 12 kilos with any regularity

Had one of these for years ...
I had one of these cherry-pitters for years. Somehow, it got lost when I moved to the US from Switzerland where the cherry is practically the national fruit. (The is even a national cherry-pit-spitting competition. I'm not kidding!) I froze cherries, made cherry jam, and just about anything else. I am pleased to find this useful tool once again.

Best.Investment.Ever.
Easy to use. Easy to clean. Easy to put away. Beats pitting cherries with an OXO hand pitter by a mile!

I rarely get single purpose kitchen tools, but this one is a must if you are like me and scour the farmer's markets for sour cherries. I am that crazy lady who will buy as many quarts as I can.

Okay. It doesn't get every pit, but it most certainly dispatches most of them. Takes no time at all to pit several quarts of cherries. It has a place of honor in my kitchen

What a Gem
Picked this little baby up last night and was pitting cherries in minutes with no stains on my hands. Love this tool.

Will the Leifheit High Volumn Cherry Pitter pit olives at the same rate as cherries?
A shopper on Oct 13, 2011
Best Answer: I spoke to a gentleman at leifheit customer service to get a definite answer on this one. He told me that this pitter is only suggested for pitting cherries, as the pitting stone is slightly different than one used for a device made to pit cherries and olives
