Description

Certified as a Master Bladesmith by the American Bladesmith Society, Bob Kramer is one of the only Master Bladesmiths in the world specializing in kitchen cutlery. Put simply, Kramer is King of the Kitchen Knife. As such, Bob Kramer has seen the knife from every angle—as a chef, a professional knife sharpener, and a Master Bladesmith.

Although he is most widely recognized for his blades, Bob is also an expert on sharpening. In that spirit, he has collaborated with ZWILLING to create the Kramer by Zwilling sharpening collection. This assortment offers a sharpening and polishing option to fit every skill level, along with accessories to help maintain these critical tools for years to come.

In order to maximize the performance of any knife, it is very important that the edge be properly cared for. Fantastic Sharpening Kit!
Initially, we were a bit skeptical about how stable the block would be while sharpening.
It was incredibly stable!
The base fits perfectly in any sink, and does not shift at all. You really can see the difference as you move through the different stones.

There is a very clear online video that will guide you through the entire process. We sharpened over 20 knives our first time out!

We were so impressed by the performance that we went back & purchased the ZWilling Care Kit for Carbon Knives as well as the Stropping Block.

This is a high quality sharpening kit that will sharpen your knives better than any commercial sharpener on the market

Habit Forming!
Once you get the hang of it, you'll be going to the neighbor's house to get their knives! Takes a bit of practice but it's a zen-like experience with your beloved cutlery

Learning
I've never taken the time to learn to sharpen knives on a stone until I purchased my latest set of kitchen cutlery for our new farm house. I find this kit easy to use. I did not want to start using it on my new knives so I've been practicing on some old stainless knives and my grandmothers 100+ year old carbon steel knives, must say I'm getting the technique down. If you are going to spend the money for top quality cutlery why not take the time to sharpen them correctly. I will add the 3000 grit and the leather strop next

Best way to sharpen
this is the best way to sharpen, and the best set of stones I've ever used

Very nice, excellent results
I used to use oilstones, then Japanese water stones, and now this system. Being able to sharpen knives right by the source of water, and with these specially manufactured sharpening plates, really makes the job more pleasant, cleaner, and more accurate.

I come from a woodworking background, and am used to sharpening chisels and plane blades to be literally able to shave with them (that's how I knew they were fully sharp). Sharpening this way requires some feel and care, but the results will be superb when you become familiar.

I also got the strop, and sometime hope to get the finest sharpening stone as well.

Best Sharpening System I have tried
I first heard of Bob Kramer from a New Yorker article and just recently went to the store to buy a Kramer knife. But then I thought what is the point of buying an expensive knife if you can't keep it sharp. So I bought the Kramer sharpening kit to try on my old knives first and, after a false start, got my knives razor sharp just like in his video. The trick is to press harder and go back and forth - a little different technique than the sharpening steel. Now I am going back for the Kramer knives!

This kit +video=super blade
These stones are special and are a great improvement over the stones of 30+years ago. Technology has hit the kitchen at the basic tools finally! If not for Bob Kramer we would be in the electric knife age.

Great Sharpening Kit
This is a great kit to keep in the kitchen. Have sharpened all of my cutlery with it. The learning curve is pretty short thanks to the instructional video. It's slightly messy but oh so worth it. I've used the bridge over my sink and on my countertop as well. Works great either way but I prefer using it over the sink as it reduces the clean up. If you're up for "do-it-yourself" type maintenance on your cutlery this is the kit to have.

I went to Bob Kramer's class at Sur La Table on knife sharpening and learned how to sharpen knives. I had a couple of antique sharpening stones of unknown grit which were not going work for me, so I opted for this little device.
James B on Dec 3, 2015
I desperately needed my two year old Wusthof knives sharpened. I own the Wusthof Classic 36 Piece Knife Block Set, and the Honing Steel was ineffective at completing the task. I searched endlessly for an effective knife sharpener, and my husband, who does not cook at all, found this for me. Mr. Bob Kramer is a complete genius! This set has turned my knives from dull, to sharp, once again. I love it. It is so simple to use. I am able to slice acorn squash and pumpkins with such ease.

I hone my knife regularly, but i need stones to re-establish the edge after prolonged use.
COLE P on Sep 24, 2015
Took an informative and fun knife class taught by Bob Kramer at the local Sur la Table, and he demonstrated how to sharpen and care for knives. I have a couple of his knives and figured it made sense to sharpen them correctly. Came home and practiced with a cheap knife, as he suggested. The stones really work once you get the feel for it, which doesn't take long.

Best product combination and value for my money. Best quality Japanese sharpening stones and bamboo holder make this a great long term investment.
John R on Jan 4, 2015
been sharpening with a fantastic 1 inch wide rod but always wanted to go further and better with stones and the video convinced me along with a quick internet search to find that the individual components are far more expensive than in this set and the stones were not as wide which I see is essential to an outstandingly sharp blade. let the sharpening begin!

I own a Ken Onion Shun set of knives that are ergonomically correct. Can they be sharpened using Kramer by Zwilling Knife Sharpening Kit?

I ask this question because I do not want to spend the money on the kit just in case they cannot work with these knives, and I also do not want to run the risk of destroying the knives without asking the question
A shopper on Feb 17, 2012
BEST ANSWER: I sharpened a Ken Onion Santoku with the Kramer stones today... It's now razor sharp.
Do the stones wear? How long will one last before it gets to thin and needs replacing?
Jim T on Mar 20, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Yes all sharpening stones will wear. You are physically grinding the stone material away (a tiny amount) with each stroke. Typically, they'll get thinner in the middle over time. It will take a long time e.g. years of regular home use. Long before the stone is ever "too thin", it will be curved. That makes putting an edge on a knife difficult. The solution to that is to then buy a lapping plate and grind the stone back to true flat. But, it will be a long time before you have to worry about it.
How often would you recommend sharpening?

We just purchased a Shun knife and plan on keeping it for as long as we can. We are also vegetarians and cook only once or twice a week. How often would you recommend sharpening and which grits?
A shopper on Jan 5, 2014
BEST ANSWER: If you're just learning to sharpen, I would just ""touch up"" about every 2-3 months on the 5k stone. If the knives are pretty dull at this point, you can drop down to the 1k grit. I dont recommend the 400 unless you know what you are doing. Otherwise you may do more damage than good. Its easier to keep a knife sharp by touching up than to sharpen a dull knife. If you have Shun with vg10 steel, a honeing rod is fine. If they have sg2 steel, i wouldnt hone since the metal is too hard and will create micro-chipping in the blade
I have a large farmhouse sink - what is the length of the sink bridge?
