Description

SPECIAL VALUE This powerful kitchen multi-tasker is perfect for slicing, dicing, and chopping large quantities of fruits, vegetables, meats, and more. The wide blade keeps knuckles off the cutting board and is extra handy when transferring cut food from board to pan.

With its curved belly, this chef’s knife can be gently rocked through fresh herbs or spices to produce a very fine mince. Plus, a thinner blade makes it lighter and less tiring to use than comparable European-style chef’s knives.

Shun Classic’s tasteful and contemporary design features a beautiful Damascus-clad blade and D-shaped ebony pakkawood handle. Behind the knife’s beauty is function: a razor-sharp blade offering precision performance.

Shun Classic chef’s knives feature a core of proprietary VG-MAX super steel clad on both sides with 34 layers of Damascus stainless steel. The woodgrain pattern of the steel allows the blade to slide easily through food. The result is a knife that’s sharp, durable and corrosion resistant, as well as beautiful to behold.

NSF-certified knife meets the high-level safety standards for professional kitchens.

Kitchen Essential #1
Every basic cook should invest in a good knife, not just a good knife but an essential knife that is versatile and easy to use. For me, this would be my Shun Chef's knife. A light blade, smooth handle, and cuts clean every time. I've had my knife for 3 years now, and it still cuts all my meats and vegetable in one slice. If you have to saw back and forth with a knife - you need a new knife. This is definitely a must have multi-tasker in the kitchen from chicken to steak, fish, veggies and cake - yes, cake - warm the blade up before you slice a cheesecake and it's like a surgeon just served you.

Great customer service if you have questions about upkeep and warranty. Remember to register the knife because it does come with a lifetime guarantee for sharpening and replacement (if EVER needed)

Don't deny yourself the pleasure.
When I arrived home last evening from a long and less than perfect day at work, I found that my new Shun knives had been delivered. I hadn't planned to cook, but the temptation to try out these new knives was too great. I told myself to just dice an onion and heat up left overs and relax. Well, that plan didn't work. I had been curious about these knives and admired them for a long time, but had hesitated because of the cost. I hadn't even gone into the store to hold the knife in my hand. Recently there was a special purchase for the 8"" chef's knife and the 3.5"" paring knife. The offer was too good to pass up. This is one time the gamble paid off. I feel like I've hit the jackpot! The German knives which have been my friends for so many years will go to a good home and a new block full of Shun will move to their place. These knives are such a joy to use I made not one, but two pots of soup last night! I couldn't stop chopping. I can't wait to buy more, and I encourage anyone who is considering taking the leap to go for it. You will be glad you did. They are everything they claim to be and more. I went to bed tired, but oh so happy

Becoming a fan!
I have been a tried and true German knife fan for my many years in the kitchen. I just purchased the 8"" chefs knife from Shun and have to admit...I am in love with it!

Very comfortable in hand, light but very sharp, holds an edge well, and well balanced make this my new favorite. I have had for a few months but it has me now considering other Shun knives to add to my collection. Pricey, but worth the cost

Superb Knife!!!
I have the Shun Classic 8"" Chef's knife and I absolutely love it! I use it every day and it stays sharp and true every time. Very comfortable in your hand making it a breeze to chop, slice and dice. I have 2 Shun knives (Shun Classic 6"" tomato knife and 4 piece steak knife set) in my shopping cart right now on Sur Le Table's web site that I am about to purchase and cant wait to put them to work in my kitchen!!

The best knife ever!
I've been using my 8" Shun Classic for about 5 years now. It is incredibly sharp, and it keeps it edge better than any other knife I've used. In the past I have used high end German knives, and they were good, but not nearly in the same league as Shun. Although this knife is fantastic, there are certain things for which it should not be used [and the Shun website provides advice as well]. First of all, you can't use it like you would a European knife for chopping, and you also should use it for heavy duty stuff like cutting up a butternut squash. That's why I still have a heavy 14" German knife for chopping parsley, mincing garlic, and cutting hard vegetables. But for things like mincing an onion, making a brunoise, or thinly slicing beef for stir fry, Shun is the way to go.

Im Sold.
I bought this Knife for my husband to expand his ever growing set of Shun Knives. This has turned into my everyday go to knife. I bought the 8" and the 6". I like the 8" He likes the 6". I Have a full 28 piece set of Henckels 4-star knives and I love them. However I am finding that I use the Shun knives more often.

Be careful, the hard steel is fragile and chips easily. My wonderful husband found out the hard way.

great tool
I've had this knife for several years. This my "go to" knife. It has a good feel in my hand and holds a great edge. I use the front of the blade for slicing and trimming meat and fish and the thicker part closer the the handle with chopping and dicing vegetables. I wouldn't be without it in the kitchen.

Too delicate
I received a set of Shun knives for my birthday two or three years ago. I love the feel and balance of the knives, and they are incredibly sharp. Unfortunately, even with extreme care they are damaged easily. The tip of one was damaged when we opened the box. A tip of another has been damaged even though it has never been dropped or handled roughly. I have used high end German knives for decades with no issues like this. It was quite a disappointment considering the cost of these knives.

A High-Precision Tool
This is an excellent knife, but demands the utmost respect. I've been using a much heavier 8" chef's knife made with German steel in my kitchen. It held its edge and did its job very well. I could throw it around and abuse it and it would still come back and cut for me. By contrast, the Shun is a lot lighter and a lot more balanced, but also incredibly sharp right out of the box. I feel that this knife is more delicate, but more precise; designed to be an extension of the fingers as opposed to an entire hand. It feels like it's made for a higher class of cuisine, and is more than able to match the skill set of even the most seasoned chefs. Essentially, this knife is more a kin to a surgeon's scalpel than anything else. If you keep that in mind, then I know this knife will serve you well.

My Best Cutlery!
This is my 3rd Shun Damascus-steel knife. They are by far the very best knives in my kitchen. I use at least one of them daily. I highly recommend them to anyone wanting high quality cutlery at a very affordable price. There are more expensive knives, but why, when the SHUN cutlery is available?

Shun Classic Chef knives--->are for right handed users???

I just bought an 8"" Shun Chef knife. I want to make sure that shun knife is for both left & right handed users?
A shopper on Oct 27, 2013
Best Answer: Because Shun knives have a D shaped handle, they are meant for right handed users. In some cases, a Shun knife can be special made for a left handed user

My son has the classic 10" and the 8". I want to add another for birthday..Any suggestions?
A shopper on Jan 11, 2016
Best Answer: I would add the 6" Nakiri (I love this knife for chopping vegetables and gave it to my son for Christmas) or the utility knife. Both are great all-purpose knives.

Is the 8" referring to the blade or the entire knife length on the Shun Classic?
Manuel on Dec 30, 2015
