Great to use!
Works great and doesn't make a mess all over the counter. Matches my marble rolling pin and marble pastry board. Used this pestal on crystal rock which is hard to grind and it banged it down to powder if I wanted to go that far. Nice size.

Best mortar & pestle!
Most of the marble mortars and pestles I have seen have a square foot on the bottom so they don't fit in your hand. This one fits perfectly so you can grip it snugly while you grind. I learned this from a professional chef, and I love it.

Perfect!
I like the marble mortar and pestle. There are ridges in the bowl to assist in breaking down materials. It is easy to clean and comfortable to work with.

I chose this based on the materials, looks and reviews. I liked the marble and shape of this mortar & pestle best, and then I read the review that stated it is easier to hold in your hand than those with a square bottom, and that helped me decide.

I wanted a marble mortar & pestle about 4" diameter. It was convenient to add this to my order, as I was already shopping for another item on the site.

I was hunting for a mortar and pestle and couldn't find one in stores. Only on the internet can I find the best of the best and purchase it easily. If it is in a nearby store, I can pick it up easily when I find what I want on the internet; otherwise, I order from the internet and have exactly what I want.

When using crushed dried herbs, always smash them in a mortar and pestle to release the flavor and aroma - like night and day! This mortar fits in the palm of my hand for comfortable crushing with the pestle.

where is it made?
Thomas K on Sep 6, 2014
BEST ANSWER: This item is made in China.
Would it grind chia seeds?
Debbie M on Jun 7, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Sorry. I messed up. Grinding anything more than two tablespoons of anything requires a little more elbow grease. But you can't really go wrong with a M&P... For larger quantities you can always use a cheapo coffee grinder.
Do I have to cure it, like you would with the lava rock molcahete?
Vinnie G on Oct 9, 2016
BEST ANSWER: No. It's not necessary. The inside of the bowl is rough and corrugated so that grinding is more efficient. Curing it would lead to a smoother surface and the food would slide instead of grind.
