PEREFECT FOR OVEN, STOVE AND CAMPSITE
Durable cast iron works on the open campfire as well as on your kitchen range. Cast iron has been the choice of savvy cooks for centuries due to its wonderful heat-retention properties, as well as its ability to mitigate the open flame without exposing your food to instant over-cooking.

PRESEASONED CAST IRON
Lodge Logic cast iron is ready to use straight out of the box. Their award winning foundry seasoning produces cast iron of equal quality to Grandma’s prized hand-me-downs. Lodge’s foundry seasoning is similar to a home-seasoning method, but on a larger scale. The cast iron is sprayed with a soy-based vegetable oil and then baked on at a very high temperature. The heat allows the oil to penetrate into the iron, creating a black patina finish with superior appearance and performance than home seasoning.

Great Dutch Oven
This is the perfect Dutch Oven for those who might not want to put down 300 clams yet for an enameled cast iron dutch oven. It makes beautiful gumbo and pot roast and the non-stick coating is easy enough to maintain.

The Only reason I would give it 4 stars and not five is because I love my Lodge Cast Iron Combo Cooker just a little bit more. The combo cooker uses a frying pan for the lid (Lodge only produces these in the 3 qt size) and I wish they made it in a 5 or 6 qt version as well.

Overall, this is a great piece of equipment that will last you more than one hundred years. It's perfect for baking breads and braising meats and cast iron is such a better alternative to other toxic nonstick coatings

Incredible value & versatility
Like others, we couldn't justify spending $270 on an enameled dutch oven. Our first experience with the outstanding Lodge product line was purchasing the 12"" skillet for breakfast (and great roast chicken!), so we turned again to Lodge.

This DO quickly became our go-to pot for everything. It has the 'self-basting' spikes in the lid like the high-end Staub DO (something I'm surprised is absent on the Le Crueset and SLT DOs).

I can't quite figure out people's surprise at how 'sturdy' it is for the price... The cast iron itself has the least impact on the price. It's the enamel process that's time-and labor-intensive, not to mention there are high import duties on French goods to the US.

Lodge has cookbooks dedicated to cast-iron skillet and DO cooking that really stretches what you think a DO can do! We love Lodge!

NOTE ON SEASONING:
The non-stick function of the ""seasoning"" is easy to maintain. Avoid washing with any kind of soap. Use nylon scrubbers; air-dry thoroughly before putting on the lid, and remember to lightly wipe insides with veg oil before storing.

Frying and cooking with meats, bacon, meat broth, and butter naturally facilitate maintenance of the seasoning, the way a grill builds up a patina.

If you have an difficult crusted on gunk, fill and soak with plain warm water to loosen the debris. If you really must wash with soap, just remember to re-season by oiling and then baking empty at high heat to allow the oil to penetrate and re-seal the cast iron

Fabulous Kitchen Addition for Cookware
I was on a budget and couldn't see spending a lot of money on a Dutch Oven. I read the reviews and thought I would give it a go. I even saved the box in case I didn't like the way the food would come out. I cooked short ribs and vegetables. OMG it was unbelievable. The recipe called to constantly vary the temperature. NOTHING BURNED!! I am extremely impressed with this Dutch Oven. Even if you are not on a budget and are thinking of getting a Dutch Oven get this one you will be totally dazzled with this cookware!!!

Great Value
I purchased this Dutch Oven as a gift for my daughter. She really wanted one but after the initial sticker shock of browsing the enameled famous maker brands at nearly four times the cost, I almost gave up. Luckily I spotted the Lodge version online for a fraction of the cost, and I figured if Sur La Table carried it then it must be fairly good. When it arrived I was a little surprised at how sturdy and substantial it was. Bottom line is that it's terrific in the kitchen...does a wonderful job of braising and simmering to perfection. With a little care to lightly oil the Dutch Oven after each use, I am happy to recommend it. Lots of oven for your money

Love Lodge cast iron
My daughter knows I love kitchen gadgets and gave me a gift certificate to Sur La Table. I had wanted a Dutch oven for quite a while but just couldn't justify the expense to myself. While browsing on line to find something I wanted to use my gift certificate to buy, I came across this Lodge cast iron Dutch oven. I LOVE it! I use it more than I thought I would because it's such a great piece of equipment. Although the price was excellent (much less than some others), it is very good quality heavy cast iron. And I love the fact that it is made in the USA
