I think this steamer is a great kitchen basic. It is sturdy and steams very evenly. I bought the larger steamer since I make a lot of Asian food. If you do buy the larger one make sure you have a wok or pan that is large enough to hold the wok and steaming liquid.
I bought two of these for my father who lived in Tiawan for 7 years and has steamers from there. He uses these a lot and he says they are of a very high quality and much better than the numerous ones that he has looked at but never bought because they were not made well or correctly. He likes them so much he's asked for another set for his birthday this year.
Description of steamer says package contains 3 steamers but there are only two. 3rd piece is a lid, not a steamer. I was surprised and not very happy when it arrived. Steamer is well made and well sized but not want I was expecting. I hope you change the description so we know what we're getting when we order. I bought both sizes so I was doubly disappointed
My husband does not like his rice gummy. I have high hopes this steamer will yield perfectly textured rice! :) Plus, it's healthy to steam food, so I'm looking forward to using it to steam veggies, etc. The only downside is hand washing it, but I think it will be worth it.
I purchased my first bamboo steamer from Sur La Table several years ago. I bought 2 10 inch and one 6 inch. I use them every day and am very satisfied with how long they last. much nicer and more durable than others I have seen for less money. Thanks
Steaming is my preferable method for vegetables and my metal steamer insert only fits the one pan I use for rice, noodles or potatoes. This double steamer seems like it will solve my dilemna . I ordered an extra for my son and his wife who also like to cook healthy.

Best Answer:A 10" steamer is an outside measurement. The actual inside diameter is 9 and 1/4 inches. Since pie dishes are 8 to 9" they should fit. Never thought about using it as a carrier. Thank you. You can get a 12" steamer and it has basically the same ratios for inner and outer diameter.
Thank you. I got her a steamer last year, and it works for 2 of her pie pans. But she brought 4 pies for T'giving, and you're right, it didn't work for them. I'll just keep my eye out for a larger one. Thank you. Jami
Thank your for your quick reply. Unfortunately, it won't hold her pie pans! She's been known to make 6 pies for Thanksgiving, and steamers are a great way to transport, if only we could find them big enough for the pans with the small handle on the rim.
