How do you calibrate this thermometer.

There are no instructions on the package.
A shopper on Jan 12, 2013
Best Answer: Bumping or dropping the thermometer can knock it out of calibration, so it's a good idea to check its accuracy from time to time. The easiest way to do so is to fill a glass with a mixture of half water, half ice, and stir it around for a few seconds. Insert the thermometer stem into the ice-water and wait for the needle to stop moving. If it reads anything but 32°F, you need to recalibrate.

To recalibrate, you must leave the stem immersed in the ice-water bath as described above. Use a small wrench to loosen the nut behind the dial. Then rotate the dial face until the 32°F mark is directly beneath the needle, then re-tighten the nut.

Do you leave this thermometer in while the meat is in the oven?
A shopper on Jan 7, 2014
Best Answer: You can leave it in while meat is in the oven, but the glass cover is not meant to withstand extreme temperatures, so you can't leave it in while using the broiler or while grilling

According to the FAQs, you can check calibration by putting in ice water. However, this meat thermometer doesn't go below 120 degrees. So I'm wondering, am I missing something?
