Compact and durable
I love this small microplane! You can use it for anything that need a fine grate, it's takes up little room and is perfect for spices and ginger.
Sometimes I use it to top soups with shaved almond or hard cheese

Best spice grinder...
First of all, let me say that I love my standard Microplane grater. And I haven't been enchanted w/a lot of the specialized graters -- except for this one.

It does a finer grate than the standard Microplane. And it is absolutely brilliant for when you quickly need some finely grated spice. It only takes ~a minute to get a teaspoon of grated nutmeg.

I regularly use it on nutmeg -- but I also use it for dried white ginger when I need powdered ginger for a recipe. I was also surprised about how effective it is on using almost the whole nutmeg. I will say that one of my friends was bemused when she opened my whole nutmegs' spice container and found a nutmeg that looked like someone had taken a bite out of it.

It's one of the items that I keep hanging from the pot rack above my stove so it's readily available. Easy to add a bit of nutmeg to a cream soup or curry

I have been pouring from the original olive oil bottle and its making a mess on the counters and in my cabinets. Oil is dripping down the sides on the original so I think this will allow me to leave it out and spill less oil.

I have one of these graters, which works very well for nutmeg, so I decided to give one as a gift.
