Coming in second isn't always bad is it?
To this question I must answer No! Though, Food Lover's Companion does lack much of the information its big brother, Larousse Gastronomic, holds it is still a decent buy for the home cooks...or beginning culinary student. It is essentially the cliff notes of the real deal. Smaller, less heavy and easy to carry with you this book can be used and abused. I recommend to anyone who wants to read up on techniques and food origins to definitely invest some money into this product, unless of course, your saving it for Larousse
