Innovative item is a perfect gift for anyone who loves to cook out. Pre-seasoned cast-iron humidifier lets you grill deliciously moist and tender meat and seafood with amazing results.
Just fill the slender cast-iron boxes with water, beer, wine, juices or other liquid and cook. Steam is released, adding moisture, infusing food with complex flavors and keeping it naturally tender. Food retains more natural juices and rich flavor for unforgettable results every time.
Well I didn't really know much about having liquid in my grill. I do love to grill but this idea was not one I had thought about until I got the SLT catalog. I have made beer-can-chicken several times, where you have beer in a cup in the cavity of a chicken cooked vertically...and it was always juicy and tasty. Now I know why!
I have now used this 3 times in my grill and every time the meat (chicken twice and beef once) was dripping with juices. It just works...I don't really understand why unless it just keeps the normal evaporation at a minimum.
Also I oil mine after cleaning with water...I think this helps with any rusting and maybe it will season like my beloved cast iron fry pan over time.
I also plan to try in my oven sometime when I am cooking a roast or something. Maybe it will have the same effect
These humidifiers work really well. I only use one on my grill, but the food comes out very tender with a little hint of flavor (I usually use beer).
My only complaint is cleanup. Since these are on the grill, they are too hot to take off when grilling is finished, so I leave them on to cool. Leave them on too long, though, and they rust. Nonetheless, I recommend this product
These cast iron humidifiers are fantastic. These were a present for my husband, who loves to grill, and these make it even better! We use these all the time on our grill and the meat is so tender and juicy that it melts in your mouth. We've been experimenting with different kinds of liquids which makes it even more fun! They are heavy duty and made extremely well and well worth the money
I have a set of these and I grill a lot using them to keep the meat moist. But I never thought of using them as smoker boxes...I sure cannot see why they wouldn't work really well. They would handle the heat and hold enough chips...Melissa a really great idea!
Best Answer:I think so...and I think it would have the same result...juicier food. It is my plan to try soon too. I have cooked chicken in a vertical roaster with liquid in the cavity cup...it was very juicy and it cooked faster than without the liquid.
