Extremely well thought out
Every detail of this tool seems to have been given great consideration. The placement of the on/off trigger is in the perfect spot for maximum control. The chopper attachment is big enough that you can get a scrub brush between the sides and the pin in the middle (my old one wasn't and was a pain to clean). The lid doubles as a non-slip base for the mixing container. I could go on and on, but will cut it short by saying this is one fantastic tool and I'm not quite sure how I survived before I bought one

My Newest Power Tool
Breville's Variable Speed Immersion Mixer sports a sleek look and offers a fantastic design that significantly reduces turbulence and suction (to the bottom of hot pots/containers), making it a safer and easier-to-use product compared to competing items. The whisk and mixing feature have enabled me to create the best vinaigrettes I've ever made and tasted with an amazing amount of speed and ease. The longer power cord is awesome because it offers more maneuverability when my kitchen counter gets crowded during the dinner prep rush. Users can add and remove attachments with a light squeeze, and cleaning them is super easy. All of this has made the Breville Variable Speed Immersion Mixer ""My Newest Power Tool."

I LOVE Breville !
I have this Variable Speed Immersion Mixer and I just LOVE it. I love to make soups and with this tool, I don't have to ladle out my butternut squash soup into my Breville Ikon Blender (which is also superb) to puree it.
The Immersion Mixer is a marvel, and it cuts prep time substantially!
This immersion mixer belongs in YOUR kitchen.
Buy it and you won't be sorry

"The first thing, literally, out of my mouth..."
...when I used this for the first time was...

""Where have you been all my life???""

Tired of ladling hot soups into my blender and creating a mess, I decided to get an immersion blender. I didn't know much about them, so the lady at the store reviewed each of the ones available with me. I am so glad I went with the Breville. It is AMAZING. Still, if you want super smooth soups, a blender probably works better, but so far I have no complaints.

This is one of those items that you never realized how useful (and wonderful) it is until you actually own it. The price is well worth it. :

Best Immersion Blender Ever
I had a different brand a long time ago. Never was that pleased with it, but it was okay. I ended up giving it away.

I bought this one and had it in the cabinet for almost a year.

Made mushroom soup the other night, pulled it out, and my mouth dropped at the power. It effortlessly pulled the food in and blended. I don't even know how to describe it. I now know what all the fuss over immersion blenders is about.

Lots of uses and a nice space-saver
We have a toaster from Breville that we love and wanted to use their immersion blender to make fruit smoothies, among other things.

We mistakenly believed immersion blenders overall could do the same things as regular blenders (specifically, blend ice), so if you're looking to make margaritas, you'll need to find space for a regular blender as immersion blenders can't handle ice.

However, this immersion blender can definitely handle frozen fruit and does a great job making smoothies. I also use the whisk attachment when I need to froth up eggs or blend cake batter. The torque is great!

I also love the two ways of blending in the pitchers included with this set. One allows you to use the pitcher lid to blend, though it's shorter, and the other lets you blend a large volume with the immersion shaft. Even better is the larger one has a nice lid to let you keep leftovers in the fridge.

If you're looking to make soups, smoothies, or blend anything softer than straight-up ice, this product will do the trick

One of the best tools in my kitchen
I bought this after my old, cheap hand blender died while trying to chop mushrooms.

I had planned to buy a good but less expensive brand, but I'm so glad the sales person in the store steered me to the Breville. I didn't realize until using it just how useful a high-quality hand blender could be.

Things I've made with this: lentil soup, mashed potatoes (a full pot done in 60 seconds), plum sauce, applesauce (including peels!). I've creamed butter, mixed dough, scrambled eggs.

Each and every one of these things it has done like a dream.

Highly, highly recommended

Great immersion blender
This immersion blender is excellent. It has a comfortable grip with a trigger button and isn't too heavy to hold for longer periods. Clean up is easy and the attachments make it useful for many tasks. I made madeleines last night and instead of having to whisk by hand for 5 minutes I used my Breville (with whisk attachment) and the eggs frothed beautifully. Great performance, great price and lots of extras. I leave it out on the counter so it is easy to access

Hand Blender & Mixer
I have been after this product for the longest time. I used to own other brands and they all broke after constant use. I just got it, and I used it once, and absolutely love it!!! It is so practical, steady performance and powerful. It is so much worth paying more for the Breville brand than the other not as expensive. Highly recommend it

So Far, So Good
Haven't had the Breville very long, but I like what I've seen. This is a replacement for an immersion blender that had housing problems & the potential for a shock. I can't live without this appliance so decided to try another brand. Like all the bells & whistles that come with it. It chops veggies well & did a semi-puree of my soup just the way I like it. Appears to be a superior successor.

Wattage ? Is blender head piece detachable

For cleaning, etc. Is this suitable to make blended drinks with ice ? I have worn out a few lesser brands..
A shopper on Jan 31, 2011
BEST ANSWER: This blender has a 280W motor. It is suitable for crushing ice.
Is there an on/off switch?

I have a Viking immersion blender that requires you to hold the buttons down while blending, which I find hard to do after several minutes.Does this Breville have an on/off switch that keeps it on while blending
A shopper on Jan 31, 2011
BEST ANSWER: No, it doesn't have a switch that keeps it on. The manual says that it should be used 1 minute on, 1 minute off to keep from over-heating, but in the 6 months I've had it, there hasn't been a job that i went past 2 minutes on, it's very powerful. In addition, the trigger is in a better spot than the Viking (my 3 year old does it with me) so feels much more natural to use
Would this blender be good for mashed potatoes?
ANN S on Oct 1, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Personally, I would not use an immersion blender for mashed potatoes! They would be a starchy mess when you were done. I prefer chunks in my mashed potatoes, but for those times where you want smooth and fluffy there are many better options than an immersion blender
How long is the power cord? I have an older house with a limited number of electrical outlets in the kitchen.
A shopper on Mar 8, 2016
BEST ANSWER: As the owner of a home built in 1875, I empathize with your hesitation about purchasing an appliance before verifying its electrical compatibility with an old house! The Control Grip's power cord is 72-inches in length. Breville does not recommend using an extension cord, but its website says that one may be used if care is taken to prevent accidents with a hanging cord and to match the electrical rating of the extension cord. The rating will be marked on the extension cord; the blender's is imprinted on the blending end of the appliance in the Breville "label".
Will this whip cream?
A shopper on Sep 30, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Definitely! I use it all the time to make a small amount of whipped cream. You can also store leftovers in the fridge with the lid in place.
Is the plastic part at the bottom of the shaft BPA free? Answer given 1/2013 says "no". Answer given 4/2014 says yes. Was plastic part upgraded to be BPA free during that time frame?
cathleen n on Oct 1, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Yes, that must be the case. I went back through my emails from around the time I originally answered this question. Here was the correspondence between the Parts Coordinator from Breville USA & myself on 1/26/13:

"Is the plastic part at the bottom of the shaft BPA free?

Can I mash cauliflower with this product?
Debbie on Mar 10, 2017
BEST ANSWER: I've never tried to mash cauliflower, but I think if it were cooked to a softer consistency it should mash easily. I really like the immersion blender.
I have a whisk attachment with my Breville blender which first requires a separate gear box attachment to the mixer shaft. Problem is their is a mismatch. The whisk shafts do not fit or mate into the receptacles on the gear box? How do I get these to mate together properly?
A shopper on Dec 28, 2016
BEST ANSWER: I also have a whisk attachment, but it slips on and snaps into place. If your's does not, it sounds like there must be a defect. Do your other attachments snap on the handle/motor? If so, then the whisk attachment might be misaligned/defective in some way. Perhaps Sur la Table would exchange it for you.
How many watts is this unit?
A shopper on Dec 9, 2015
BEST ANSWER: The Breville BSB510XL Control Grip Immersion Blender has a 280-watt motor.
Can it be used to make boxed cake mixes?
A shopper on Jun 21, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Although a stand or hand mixer may be the ultimate choice, it does work for box mixes. However, I would use the whisk attachment for better results. The attachment set is awesome and this is my favorite kitchen appliance, hands down!
Can it be used for smoothies?
