Excellent tool!
I just bought this and it only took a couple of minutes to assemble. The directions are fairly straight forward and come with some recipes as well. I've only tried this with apples to make an apple pie. I've never tried a tool like this before (I'm new to cooking/baking), but I can see myself using this a lot. It would work well for both potatoes and apples and probably other soft-skin fruits or vegetable. Cleanup is also easy. It's such a time saver!

Another gift for mom. Whatever makes things easier for her is my goal. She loves this thing and uses it all the time on apples from her tree so she can freeze the apples for pies later.

It attached smoothly and firmly on my granite counter tops and doesn't wobble. Makes quick work out of apples for apple pies or apple sauce. Its a gift for family.

Perfect tool for peeling and slicing apples. I hope it lasts. The last three I bought from other sources didn't last more than a year each.
Adeline B on Nov 22, 2015

I cook a lot and find peeling apples a pain, so I decided to buy this and also see I can use it to peel potatoes.
Patrick B on Nov 12, 2015
Looking for an apple peeler that would allow me to just peel and not have to peel & slice so I can control the way I hope the apples.
Janet G on Oct 25, 2015
Thought this would make an excellent gift. Haven't seen anything quite like it. Just hoping it lives up to my hopes!
HELEN D on Oct 25, 2015
Arthritic hands make slicing apples difficult sometimes. I hope this tool will make this task easier and quicker. Also, I like to slice pie apples thin and as uniform as possible and I hope this tool will do the trick.

needed a new apple peeler/corer and loved that is suctioned to the counter

My daughter enjoys making healthy and fun foods for her family but she didn't have one of these. With apple-picking season upon us, I knew she'd would love this.
Cydney S on Sep 24, 2015
Like to bake apple desserts and use apple slices in salads. Arthritic fingers make paring and slicing difficult; hoping this tool will make everything easier.
Sandra W on Sep 19, 2015
I bought this peeler from Sur La Table a year ago, because I wanted to avoid the knock-offs that are on sale at other places (including Bed Bath and Beyond). (The knock-offs don't have the cast-iron base and the handle was a cheap soft wood that was painted orange instead of hard wood stained. Also, the forked attachment at the front was clearly plastic painted silver and not stainless steel.) I was very happy with the peeler I got and I'm ordering one as a gift for my sister.

Can I peel apples without slicing them?
Judith L on Sep 13, 2015
BEST ANSWER: According to the instructions which came with the peeler, you can peel without slicing as well as slice without peeling.
Can the thickness of the slices be adjusted? Thanks.
A shopper on Aug 9, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Yes, it can. The peeling blade is manually attached with a wingnut and you can adjust the gap between the blade and the solid piece of the peeler to adjust thickness
What is the thickness of the slices?
A shopper on Oct 6, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Fairly thin, maybe about 1/4" thick. This cannot be adjusted.
will it peel potatoes?
A shopper on Nov 17, 2015
BEST ANSWER: This tool will most definitely peel potatoes (and pears), in addition to apples. It'll
make scalloped potatoes quick and easy!
How do I assemble apple peeler?
A shopper on Nov 23, 2015
BEST ANSWER: It wasn't difficult, however I did You-Tube it which made it very clear. PS I love mine!
Will it "spiralize" zucchini?
Jennifer S on Dec 29, 2015
BEST ANSWER: It might, zucchini is not as dense as an apple. Also, the travel of the cutter is made for the length of apples.
you would need to shorten the veg to match.
Does the suction cup base work well?
A shopper on Nov 28, 2015
BEST ANSWER: It does, we have granite counter tops and once the lever is down it stays put! It also detaches from the actual peeler part of the way so you can make sure you get the whole thing clean and dry!
Does it come with an extra blade and does SLT sell replacement blades?
Debbie C on Nov 8, 2015
BEST ANSWER: There was no extra blade with my online purchase.
Does this apple peeler develop any blackish substance on the wheel driver after you've done several pounds of apples for something like jam? That's what happens with a similar peeler. It happens after doing a lot of apples and it gets on your fingers and some apples occasionally. I'm interested in the sur la table version as long as it doesn't develop the same blackish material on the wheel.
Barbara S on Oct 26, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Mine has not! It's apple season in Marylandd so we've been using it almost daily. Just make sure you wash and dry it completely eveytime so it doesn't get any rust spots!
I have enjoyed using this for years. Most recently, I found the it did not remove the apple peel very well. It would remove the peel for a couple of turns and then miss the peel for a couple of turns, and so on. How can I repair or adjust something to make it work as well as it used to?
A shopper on Dec 5, 2015
BEST ANSWER: It can be readjusted by loosening the screw and readjusting to refit the apple; the problem is that the screw won't stay tight. I have to rebuy this item every 2 years. I've bought it from a number of places and paid different prices, finding that every one, no matter the price, is the same item, all made in China.
Until it breaks or stops working it's great for peeling and coring large numbers of apples. I wish there was an American made one; maybe then it would last longer.
It also should be noted that soft apples make a big mess and are frustrating.
