what is size batteries does it take?

I have one but it died after a month of use. it has a 3 volt LR44 battery in it but i can;t find one that size. will it take another size of battery.
A shopper on Mar 23, 2012
Best Answer: This thermometer takes an LR44 batter, which is included when you purchase it. It is not suggested that you use a different type of battery

I am not sure I am using it properly. D you merely insert it into the food for the temperature? Or do I need to use the hold button for a read out?
A shopper on Dec 22, 2015
Best Answer: You just press on and wait a second before putting it into your food. Then wait for the temp to climb. Once the numbers begin slowing down you know you're about at the temp. Remember meat will rise a few degrees after you take it out of the oven. Make sure you're reading it at the deepest part. Not the shallowest and that you're not touching the pan with it.

I have the same model from a few years ago. I'm wondering if this one also has USDA Food Safe Temperatures listed on the side of the thermometer?
A shopper on Dec 9, 2015
Best Answer: Yes, it does! I have this one from about 5 years ago. Sent a new one last year to my brother and his has the temp on the side as well. Happy holidays!

Can I use it to check sauces?
mary w on May 4, 2015
Best Answer: I don't get the impression it's for liquids. I use it all the time for fish, burgers, steaks. It's great. But I don't think it would work in liquids. It's more like a meat thermometer that you'd stick in a large roast, but it's much smaller and gives a pretty instant read, so it's great for individual pieces of meat/fish/poultry.

changed battery (LR44) display now locked showing 8888 with battery icon, H, F in right hand column. Can't shut it off. What happened?
Tom P on Dec 16, 2015
Best Answer: It sounds like it's reacting badly to the battery you inserted. I suggest trying a new battery & if that doesn't work, then return it.

In your picture is the case on? Doesn't look like a real thin probe. Is it model # DT 450x?
mary w on May 5, 2015
