I bought the pair about a year ago. They are hard to fill as the openings are small. What I really don't like is it doesn't grind the salt very well and sometimes when you turn the handle the salt doesn't grind at all. Cute but they don't work very well. I'm on the site today to look at some new ones.
I purchased this item today and plan to return it tomorrow. The prior review does not do the product justice on how user unfriendly it is. Mind you that I cook only well enough to survive, I'm by no means a professional chef. After opening the mill, I noticed that the Use description was vague and in fact showed a diagram of a completely different pepper mill. As a result, I visited the Sur La Table and Cole & Mason websites in search of the Use and Care Manual. There were no clear instructions on either website nor the packaging, other than it was possible to change the coarseness and that you can refill the pepper/salt.
Based on my google search, you in fact need to use a coin to open the mill to refill it. Plus, the opening is pretty small, so you need some sort of funnel in order to refill it efficiently. Also, not noted on the packaging is that in order change from fine to coarse you need to turn the lug clockwise for a fine grind and counter-clockwise for a coarse grind. When I attempted a coarse grind, nothing came out at all!
I will give them this, it was stylish and seemed to be well-made. From what I was able to grind, it was very easy to use and was fairly ergonomic.
Overall, I would not recommend it. It comes down to style vs function depending on what is more important to you
