"Nice, middle of the road product"
I bought this to make my own sorbet and gelato, no more white sugar or unpronounceable preservatives for me. This machine is quite attractive and has come in handy but it has also been disappointing.

First, it claims to get the job done in 20 minutes with only a few hours of freezing the bowl. In reality it requires overnight freezing if you want a 20 minute solution. And you will have to add time (5-10min) if you want to use milk (I typically use coconut or almond or rice milk) or if you are adding alcohol, like say creme de cocoa, for flavoring. Even then, the ""sorbet"" will be quite soft and require at least 2 hours of freezing before you can actually serve it. While it is nice that the bowl does a majority of the freezing it does not make up for the cheap plastic, or that the blending paddle does not actually blend anything (so plan on using a blender before hand if you want to add fruit or add-ons like pecan pieces /cookie dough), there are no actual locks on the machine so you will have to hold blending paddle in place when placing it on the machine and it WILL be messy when you remove the sorbet. It is also VERY loud and the bowl thaws SUPER fast so no making more than one type/batch of frozen goodness at a time.

At the end of the day it is serviceable (I have made several batches of sorbet including cherry almond, chocolate fudge peanut butter swirl, kiwi, orange mango, pumpkin chai & Mango and Grand Marnier sherbet.) and this is an absolutely awesome price. But if you are looking to make real frozen desserts you will want to go with a professional machine like De'Longhi GM6000 Ice Cream Maker

Good Purchase for a Great Tasting Summer Treat!
After some skepticism and a year of consideration, I recently purchased this ice-cream maker. I read the instructions and my first batch bombed - however, after talking with the sales associate, he recommended that I freeze the freezer bowl upside down and at the back of the freezer - which I did, and the next day my 2nd batch came out perfectly! My husband just made a batch of strawberry gelato which also came out great. We have decided is to keep the freezer bowl in our freezer in order to have the unit available without the need to plan around the overnight freezing requirement

Makesgreatsorbets!
I bought this machine specifically to make sorbet from all of the oranges from our tree. It took only 5 minutes and I had 2 1/2 quarts of sorbet. Great fun!

Whip together great ice cream quickly
I bought this ice cream maker on sale in May. I've used it a handful of times since and always thought two things: how quickly the mix churns into ice cream and ""Should it be making this much noise?"".

The bowl sets up well before the suggested 24 hour period in the freezer, which is handy for next day use. I've also thrown the ""need to refrigerate the mix"" suggestion out and made it with refrigerated ingredients - it still comes together in 30 minutes or less.

Then comes the downside: I had romantic visions of secretly whipping up ice cream during a dinner party to surprise guests. The noise from this machine (a growl to a low roar) can be heard well past the kitchen, extinguishing my plans.

Verdict: For the price, it is a functional and timely ice cream maker. I highly recommend it

Very Simple
Excellent ice cream comes from this great kitchen gadget. Easy to use - must prep ingredients first, however. Have used it several times and even purchased a 2nd one! Needed another bowl anyways - so it's handy to have 2 makers on hand at once, especially if we'd like 2 different flavors

Yum!
This is such a fun machine. It's great to be able to tweak your ice cream flavors and create your own. It says it makes ice cream in 20 minutes, but it's not at all firm. It's about the consistency of heavily stirred ice cream, so I make it a few hours ahead of time so it firms up.

I consider it a good investment, but I think the ""$110 value"" is a bit much. I think the $59.95 is an appropriate price point

Fun addition to kitchen
I bought this machine after seeing it in use in one of the cooking classes I attended. I had been reluctant to buy an ice cream maker because of needing salt etc. This little machine is the best. It truly does make great tasting ice cream in 30 minutes or less. The consistency is similar to soft serve, but if you place it in the freezer for a short while you have real ice cream texture.

It is a bit on the noisy side, but that doesn't bother me. I would describe it as a hum

Best Ice Cream Ever!
I bought this on sale for $59.95 and came with FREE SHIPPING and a $20 Sur La Table gift card, how do you go wrong with that?! Anyway, I purchased all the ingredients and some add-ins (Butterfinger, Heath Bars, etc) and set off to make my first batch of ice cream with the kiddos. It was super easy! After adding in the mix-ins, we scooped the ice cream into a container and put it in the freezer overnight. The ice cream was very soft and had great flavor! Only drawback is the cost of the ingredients, about $15 to make 2 pints

Great for Low Carbing!
Sometimes we need a sweet something too in low carbing this is definitely one of the better ice cream makers I have owned. It has stood up to heavy cream mixtures without the ""bucking"" other ice cream makers have done. I did find it best to also let the paddle get cold too. I didn't freeze it just keep it in the fridge.
It has also been great for creating custards that are not hard frozen

Dude! this thing is SO easy!
We got this as a wedding present, and we use it like once a month. It's super easy to use. The recipes that come with it are really good. (Cutting out dairy? try the coconut sorbet recipe, you'll never dairy again!)
you have fresh, homemade ice cream with no dies or fillers or emulsifiers in 20 minutes. you can make 100% from scratch ice cream sandwiches and bars (move over Klondike!) and know every single ingredient that you're consuming. My in-laws now request ice cream in lieu of material gifts. this thing rocks!

No Regrets Purchase
I love this machine! You can so easily make your own custom flavors of delicious ice cream in 15-20 minutes of machine time depending upon the ingredients you add to your recipe i.e. fresh fruit adds 5 minutes. It produces soft serve ice cream, but an hour or two in the freezer firms it up if you prefer that. This is so easy I've made so many batches in the two weeks I've owned it that I've already gotten my money out of it.

first time out was a total bust
My first working with any new product entails strict adherence to instructions, recipes, warnings and so on.

So, I'm sad to say that the first outing with the Cuisinart yogurt and ice cream maker was just a mess.

I was so mad after reading of the ease of use that it is now shelved. I'll try to come revisit this review after the second attempt results in thrilling success..

Can the Cuisinart ice cream maker be used to make Gelato
A shopper on Apr 23, 2014
Best Answer: I would say you can since I am able to make heavy custards in it. You have to freeze the gelato in a container after 30 minutes of mixing though. The freezing container is not powered just frozen and only keeps its freeze about 30.

Best Answer: It comes with a small recipe booklet - instruction booklet with several recipes. It's a great way to try out your new purchase but I would recommend investing in a few good specialty books for a wider variety.

I try to avoid dairy. Are there recipes for coconut or almond milk?
David S on May 14, 2015
Best Answer: I use almond milk all the time, have a dairy allergy.......if you use one with a higher fat content the result, will be creamier, if not just churn it, ( I put a small freezer lunch bag over the hole in the top of the upper part of the unit, to keep it colder, ) , and then after you think it is about as cold and hard ( not likely it will still be soft) as it will get, ( 25-30 min) scoop it out and put in a freezable container for an hour and then serve it then, if longer, it will get hard, you might even have to take it out prior to dessert, and let it soften a bit. It will be worth the effort. I made coconut ice cream tonight, made dark chocolate last night, had a dinner party, ( both of these made with coconut milk) served it with toasted coconut, fresh pineapple chunks, and drizzle of dark chocolate............omg, big hit, like a mounds bar with pineapple.....delish and the guests gave me a round of applause!! go for it!!

Is the freezing bowl itself dishwasher safe?
A shopper on May 27, 2012
Best Answer: No, Cuisinart does not recommend the freezing bowl be placed in the dishwasher. After using the machine, allow the freezing bowl to warm to room temperature, then clean with mild soap and warm water. Allow to air dry or towel dry and place back in your freezer for storage. Once frozen, it will be ready to use next time you decide to make homemade ice cream
