How can anyone cook without it?
I have a SousVide, so of course I use this when I use my SousVide. But it has WAY more uses than just with that. Bacon wrapped Filet Mignon has crispy bacon because of the torch. A quick zap with the torch brings out the oils in citrus peels. Lemon Drop martini, anyone? Toasted marshmallows for s'mores? You betcha. Is your pizza crust perfect but you need the cheese a little more toasty? Did you run out of long matches for the barbecue? And it's really not just for cooking.....

Rosle makes an excellent torch!
This is my first kitchen torch and I love it. It has an excellent build quality and is compact which is perfect for one handed control, when locked in continuous mode. There is a slider +/- control and a safety lock below the start button. I originally bought this to make creme brulee, but now I am using it for searing shishito peppers, pork chashu for ramen and also for searing sashimi.

Only one quibble
This is a good torch, solid with the right controls. My only quibble is that I wish it came in an "adult" version -- without the child-proof safety latch -- which reminds me of the cap on a bottle of aspirin, and is as much fun to use. When time is short, I sometimes find myself reaching for one of my other torches. And then regret that I didn't slow down and use the Rösle.

I have purchased similar items in the past however I am giving this to my mother. She is actually going to use it to start her wood stove fires. it is small and easy to use and also refillable unlike the fire sticks she currently uses.

On a friend's recommendation
Christine L on Feb 23, 2015
I have heard from a young chef whom I know that, after his thorough research, this is the most versatile and best "torch" on the market. I was disappointed not to be able to find it in one of our two "local" Sur La Tables, for I had to add shipping to the price, but neither store seems to be getting these back in stock in a timely manner. I would think that such a great item should be more widely stocked, or Sur La Table would forgive the shipping charges.

I bought this as a gift for my mother who loves to cook/bake. I reviewed many torches and I believe this one sounded the best in terms of function and quality.

Where would one purchase the refillable lighter gas for the Rosle chef's torch?
A shopper on Aug 20, 2011
BEST ANSWER: High-heat kitchen torch caramelizes crème brûlée, roasts peppers, skins tomatoes and much more. Adjustable dial for flame regulation (up to 1300°C/2.372°F).

Topple-free base and practical setting for continuous operation (up to 60 minutes). Refillable with commonly available lighter gas. You can purchase the lighter gas at any Sur La Table location or anywhere else that sells butane lighter gas (some hardware stores or gas stations sell it to refill butane lighters with. It is the same kind of gas) GS and T(ÜV approved. Integrated childproof safety switch. Hand wash. 5" x 3½" x 6¾".
Does it come with gas? I just received this torch but it did not work; no flame at all.
ROSALINA B on Dec 22, 2014
BEST ANSWER: No, these are not shipped with fuel.
How to use and refill the torch?
A shopper on Nov 26, 2015
BEST ANSWER: The Rosle torch has a plastic switch that you need to flip to the left so you can press the grey ignition button to spark the tip to light the gas.

Once on, you can toggle the plastic slider to lock the button you are holding down in the on position. Slide it back to unlock.

Proceed to sear meat, roast vegetables, melt cheese, and caramalize sugar toppings.

DO THE FOLLOWING IN AN OPEN VENTILATED AREA!

Refill it by holding the torch upside down so the recessed metal nipple is pointing up. Get a butane canister and push it down onto the nipple until a little really cold liquid butane spurts out. This means it is full.
I noticed that the inside of the tip is made out of plastic. Does the flame burn/melt the inside of the tip?
Andy Y on Jan 18, 2016
BEST ANSWER: No, it does not. I've been using mine frequently each month for about 2 years now.
