Yes a colorful pot is better to cook with
Having grown up with cast aluminum pots and then switching to lighter stainless steel, I never thought a heavy cast iron would be in my cupboard. I viewed cast iron as over kill and not necessary......until I was given a 7qt Cast Iron Pot with beautiful enamel interior. First of all the weight allows the food to cook quicker! Yes quicker because the heat is not lost. The flavor is retained. The main course stays warm while the salad is served and eaten. I cannot believe I (having cooked since I was 14) have gone 40 years without this pot. WOW. Now to accumulate each of the various sizes for my kitchen! Thank you for a really really fine and quality produce

How to make a cook happy!
Being raised in the deep South I knew all about cast iron cookware as it was all my Grandmother used. When I became engaged my mother rushed out to get me a cast iron ""fry pan"" so we could start getting it seasoned before I got married. (That ""fry pan"" is now 45 years old and used lots). But somehow I missed out on enamel coated cast iron. And I am so sorry I did!

My pulled pork, beef bourguignon, etc produced wonderful results. Other cookware I used before this were a nightmare to clean. (Soaking over night and elbow grease). Not this exceptional pot. It is very easy to clean. It takes about one minute and looks brand new.

My recommendation is to buy this now! Don't miss out like I did. I need to add this (and my cast iron ""fry pan"") to my will so family members won't fight over who gets it

Surprised by cast iron stewpot
My daughter came home with the largest size of this stewpot. I tried it out on a beef burgundy casserole. It did a fine job. Like the previous reviewer, I had never used cast iron before. I have since ordered the medium and large sizes. Be mindful of the fact that the pot itself is heavy--filled with food, it is even heavier

A new favorite
Got this for Christmas and have not put it away - it sits on my stovetop because it gets SO much use! The weight allows for even cooking without scorching (although i guess i could burn something if i tried hard enough...) ... many thx to my s-in-law (and brother) for this awesome addition!

How does this compare to the Le Creuset cookware?
A shopper on Oct 11, 2011
Best Answer: From oven to stovetop to table, our take on the classic French oven is ideal for braising larger cuts of meat or slow-cooking soups, stews and more for amazing one-pot meals.Durable cast iron offers superior heat retention; chip-resistant enamel surface cleans up easily, and spikes on the underside of the lid allow food to continuously baste as it cooks, for consistently tender and delicious results. Large handles for easy transport. Hand wash. Limited lifetime warrantyOur enameled cast iron cookware is very comparable to Le Creuset. The self basting lid assures that your dish is being continuously basted throughout the cooking process without you having to remove the lid and baste the item yourself. This allows you to pretty much set it and forget it. You will not need to do anything with it until it is done and you are ready to serve. It has the same excellent heat retention qualities and the same easy to clean enameled surface. The stainless steel knobs are oven safe up to 500 degrees

Can one use high heat?

Must this be used on medium heat only?I like to sear my roasts etc and I see some dutch ovens caution one about using heat over medium. I would use possibly 425 in oven and high heat on range
A shopper on Jan 10, 2011
Best Answer: First of all the pot retains heat. Secondly the use & care directive says ""overheating or allowing enameled cookware to boil dry can result in the fusing of the cookware to your ceramic/glass stovetop requiring replacement of the stovetop. We will not be responsible for damage to stovetops""Thirdly it also say ""Use only low to medium settings for all pre-heating and cookin. ONLY USE HIGH HEAT WHEN SEARING MEATS."

What can I use to clean it that won't scratch the enamel finish?

I have a 7 quart one. My husband used it to make chili and now it has food stains on the bottom. What can I use to remove the stains but not scratch the enamel?
A shopper on Dec 22, 2011
Best Answer: Almost the exact thing happened to me. I tried soap and a soft sponge, then bar keepers friend, but even then a terible stain remained. I even considered bringing it back to the store (since they have a marvelous return policy), but as a last ditch attempt, I put three big scoops of oxi clean (I actually used the Target generic brand) and super-hot almost-boiling water in the pot and let it sit for overnight. The next morning it looked brand new inside, but I gave it a super good washing with dish soap to get off any oxi clean residue.Bes

If you could only buy one size dutch oven, which would it be? 5qt., 7qt or 8qt oval
A shopper on May 7, 2012
Best Answer: In my opinion-please bear in mind that this is strictly an opinion-I think that the 7 qt is the best size Dutch oven to own. I myself own a 7qt Dutch oven, and I find that it's my most-used piece of cookware. It's perfect for medium to large side dishes like collard greens and homemade mac and cheese and also great for one pot meals like chicken and noodles and pot roast
